Hi , have always read on here and used to be a member but lost my login a year or two back . Bit of background information about myself and my situation. Was wondering if anyone had any experience as the Internet only seems to be talking about cancer and much older people.

Essential I'm 21 years old and male , I was working at lotus cars and was riding home when I was knocked off my moped from behind by a car . Landed on the kerb and felt really rather bad . Luckily nurse driving the other way called an ambulance and I was taken to hospital , had a scan in a big tube (sorry if my medical jargon is a bit off , I was out of it on gas and air at the time and can just remember my African male nurse Henri Kissinger. No , really.) and they found I had burst my kidney into 4 bits , had it removed that night in surgery , week in hospital , nice big scar etc .

Was looking for any people who maybe knew about getting back into training afterwards ? Been 3 weeks since the accident and have managed to deadlift a disappointing 180kg , but squats are out completely due to stomach and so is bench . Also all the information I have read seems to be designed for failing kidneys e.g tiny protien intake etc. Sorry for the massive first post but thought I'd ask the collective mind as it were .
Thanks
Jake

Speak with your consultant on this. A motoring forum is not the place to get advice, and frankly 3 weeks post-op is way too soon to begin heavy lifting; you've had a major operation. Ask the surgeon about exercise, and see if they will put you in touch with physios who work with the clinical team. You'll get back to fitness by making steady progress, not by busting a gut. Your body needs time to heal.

Agreed. Even doing deadlifts challenges the core so you might end up bursting the stitches. I'm surprised they didn't tell you to avoid heavy lifting (in the general sense) for a few months.

Hi , appreciate you taking the time to respond. I had my stitches taken out 2 weeks ago , had 36 metal staples down my front. The hospital didn't really say anything much about anything really , on the day of coming out the surgeon came round and told me I'd be going home that day and then later on I was given a box of antibiotics and was on my way. No mention of restrictions other than a nurse telling me to take it easy which I have been compared to normal really . Got the follow up in mid October and that's it ?

I'm sure that when she said to take it easy she didn't mean to deadlift 180kg rather than 220kg. biggrin

I would phone the hospital and just ask.

Yes that sounds a bit crap, they should have been clear about what you can and can't do. But you're obviously quite advanced in your training with a 'disappointing' deadlift of 180kg. People don't tend to get there without a reasonable understanding of the value of recovery - with respect you must know you're jumping the gun a bit, no? biggrin

thanks for not treating me like an idiot fellas , got to be honest I feel awful and yeah I know about recovery . It's difficult really because going to train was always what I've done when I need to get away from things in my head and to be honest this is one of the biggest things I've had to deal with but I'm being advised not to do the thing that relieves stress haha . All a bit much at the minute and just want things to get back to normal , to think of how things have changed is a bit too much for me .

Try something a bit more gentle but still requires muscles eg a yoga class?

That's not a bad idea , Think I will try swimming to maybe add a bit of flexibility? been doing the weighted stretches like I always have and that's really helping it seems (Dogcrap style) will need to learn to swim but that'll keep me busy anyway in my free time, thanks redundancy.
