I've got 2 Ltd company formations I need to do in the near future.

My current LTd the accountant set up at a cost of £277

Should I be going DIY?

DIY definitely. Very cheap now. You can do it for sub £50.

Up to you, but at that rate I'd DIY personally.

If the companies are relatively straightforward then you could use a company formation agent. It would be cheaper than an accountant and easier than DIY.

A list of formation agents is at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/formati...

Yes - when I said DIY I was really thinking "Formation Agent". The problem is choosing a good one. Personally, I have used Jordans and Stanley Davis - both old established formation agents with a good reputation - and not too expensive.

Co. House guidance:

setting it up yourself online for £15:

if your articles are standard I see no reason to pay anyone more than £15 smile

I recently used Formations Direct and Company Warehouse. No affiliation to either, but both were very reasonably priced and provided everything that was required. Unless there is complex structuring involved there is no need to use an accountant.

Stanley Davis used yesterday thanks for the recommendation. Hopefully I've done it right!

Wow! I must be doing something wrong if you think paying that is decent value - how much are your annual fees?? I charge £75 plus the £15 disbursement.

Unless you were needing some complex articles, £277 is a fortune!
