Exhaust systems - 400SE/450SE/Seac
Discussion
I'm looking to improve the sound of my SEAC system - which I've always found to be a bit too quite for my liking .. when I last measured it - it was just under 100db.
Too quite
It's the same box on the 400 SE/450 SE & SEAC.
Seems to be a 2.25 inch (twin pipe) inlet and a single 3 inch pipe outlet
- with no other silencing on the system
.
I feel an article coming on for Mike's Wedge Pages ..
I've just ordered a noise meter and I'm off to buy a mig welder (Argon & Stainless are on the shopping list) and I'm a dab hand at welding ..
Got me digital camera ready ..
Guess the noise meter will get some action at the BBWF
Has anyone opened the silencer to see what is inside - what can I expect when I open it up ?

We were hooning along in our Wedges through mid wales the other day and Wyn (the chap who bought my 350i) was in front of me and all I could hear was him! And thats over the sound of my 450SE.
I remember having it measured once and it was something like 110 odd db.
Perhaps you should swap your SEAC for something like a 350i ! :-)

The original SEAC silencer was straight through, internal "Y" section with a wopping 3" perforated section , No baffle plates anywhere.
Replacement standard silencers for all V8 Wedges are unless specialy ordered, very different , they have 2 inlet pipes going into an expansion box then into a 2 1/2 " perforated single pipe, still no baffles but the expansion box will reduce by a few dbs
I recon yours has a "standard" tame silencer.

That's what I'm suspecting - I was thinking of a 3inch perf or even a few solid sections welded over to really add some volume .. bit of experimenting with my new noise meter : which is on the way
Edited to say - thanks Tim - nice to know what to expect

Mine is putting out 130db,thanks to Tim
think the 660 will be louder, guess i will need a silencer for the road and a quiet one for the track
Good luck rev, I find the only downside of the noise is that people always stare, even when you are just idling through town and this can get tiresome.
Shall have to get a db meter on mine at some point but it's pretty loud - it rattles the glass in the front windows when I warm it up in the garage, that's a detached garage 25 ft away with the exhaust pointing in the opposite direction to the windows !
