Morning all.

350i has just failed MOT... only 2 minor issues.. The horn decided not to work for the test and a slight leek from one of the power steering pump unions..

Garage is in the process of fixing and it will have an mot by end of play today.

just been into the garage to see progress...

Could be bad..
The power steering system had no fluid due to said leak but after a little more investigation, steering fluid seems to be seeping out both gaiters aswell.. it could mean that the rack will either need replacing of refurbing if the seals have gone.

starting to think it may be an expensive afternoon..

Oh dear mate...Unfortunately it does sound like you will need to get the rack rebuilt...Thats what happened on the 280i..Although it was only one side that was leaking...Not sure who you are going to use but i was trying to find the company that i used as I'm sure they had branches down near you but can't seem to find it.....Its in here somewhere...

Cheers Ziga, may come in handy.. however, just been back in to garage to see progress and it now has a new MOT and the steering leek is now ( for the meantime ) sorted !!
woohoo

It turns out that the leak was caused by a crushed washer from when they fitted a new pipe a few months ago. it had been over tightened.. they have replaced washers and cleaned all system to see if a new leak develops. in the meantime.. driving time
