Overfilling oil
Discussion
have done this myself, it will not only burn off but it will also spill over into the air intakes (via the overflow tubing and reverse flow in the intake pipes ) and make a bloody mess of the air filters and at the same time result in massive amounts of smoke appearing in the exhausts but no worry you have not blown anything - beleive me I've been there.
Just drive the car until the oil level returns to normal.

If not too much, no problem, but if too much, could blow seals and cause an engine blow. They always leave room for errer, but for me, just under is fine, over then drive a little more conservative untill it is burnt off. The problem is oil pressure, and if you build up too much, and have too much oil, the "spare" oil has to go somewhere. IE, the seals. If you have time, drain a little out, and keep an eye on the level at the track, you will soon use it up anyway.
By the sounds of it, you should be ok. Overfilling by a litre or more then worry, just over the dipstick should not be a problem.
