Hi all,starting to put the car back together, and wondering about the orientation of the washers that surround the bushes.
This pic shows the setup with 4 washers per side. Are all 4 cupped and if so, which way do they all face? Also, do I actually need "inner" and "outer" washers and what's the difference?
Thanks, Toby

You will need the unobtainable large collared washers...I have a set but didn't want them fitted as someone asked to borrow them to get them copied...Cant remember who...The new style comes with the collar on the actual bush but the steel insert is too long and stops the correct clamping causing scuttle shake...Bouncing front end when braking and a general feeling that the wheels are going to fall off..
Mark, I got my last set from these guys with no problems....

Thats where i got the washers from....I think these people are like a slow release tablet...I had to buy two cos only two were available and then wait another week when another two came up...Now they have the whole kit whereas before i had to buy poly-bushes elsewhere without the washers...I wouldn't have the scuttle shakes if this kit was available when i needed...Grab it while you can...(Said the actress to the bishop)....Cheers...Zigahttp://www.oldpartstore.net/shop/1156-tie-bar-bush...

Hi Mark I'm sure it was me.When I changed mine to polly bushes the collar was the same length as what came off, I also measured the distance of the nuts to the ends of the threads to make sure it went back in the same position, and once it was all tight they was both the same length as before.
my car had the original foam style bushes with shim style washers on the ends, and then a the fat cup washer after, looking like
--)¦O--O)¦(--
-- = tierod
) or ( = fat cup washer
¦ = Thin protector washer.
O = bush
Thanks Leigh...Thats the correct combination...I had to go for these because at the time i couldn't find the collared washers for love nor money...

Blimey...Just seen that it was in 2013.....And i have put up with the shaking stevens front end special all this time...Or thereabouts....I think I'm going to grab a kit while they are there....Cheers...Ziga

you should only need the thick cup washers as the others are extremely thin and don't think they will make much difference.
Hi Leigh...Yes it was but don't worry now as i will fit the ones i have as it looks like the unobtainable's are now obtainable...- MARK was it the big cup washers you wanted me to copy, as I think I may have a spare, so no need to send

Thanks anyway mate...Ziga
Maybe I'm a bit thick but... can we start again?
I have the new poly bushes and the 4 rotten washers that came off the car. see pic.
I note that none of the 4 old washers are "thin" they are all at least 3mm thick I reckon. Only one has a discernable "cup" but I think 1 other has flattened over the years.
The poly bushes look identical in profile to the old rubber ones.
Leigh's diagram above shows 2 washers touching on one side and 3 touching on the other side. That can't be right can it?
Looking at the first drawing I posted, it looks like: nut, flat washer, bush, cupped washer, chassis, cupped washer, bush, flat washer, nut
IF that's right, it means the two cupped washers are touching the chassis. Is that right? The other question is which way the bushes face. The bushes each have a side which is chamfered, and a side that has a lip on the inner diameter. Does each lip face the chassis or does the chamfered side?
I think its important to get this dead right for future rebuilders as well as for me. Thanks in advance!

your car has already had the bushes done once hence why there are no thin washers.
your want to put it back as it was just with the polly replacing the rubber bushes
should look like
--)O--O(--
-- = tierod
) or ( = fat cup washer
O = bush
its easier to fit the tie rod and bushes to the chassis, and then connect the tie rod to the wish bone after.
Give the cup washers a good clean, and the chassis. and wash off with soapy water, as polly don't like some cleaning fluid.

I'd go with the above description, would tally up with whats on my subrame that way
Also, make sure the void on the chassis where the smaller section of the poly bushes sits is big enough for them to sit in to and touch in the middle from either side (if that makes any sense and reads ok)
