Are these wheels/tyres an good for my car?
Discussion
I believe so.
Here is your OE bible - anything close to this *should* work, but if you push the offset too far from OE then you may get rubbing. Remeber also that different makes of tyres do have different sidewall profiles which may add to the chances of rubbing.

Alternatively, do some maths using this excellent site:

Thanks for your reply.
I have done a bit more digging and found some info in Total 911 magazine showing the 993 C4S and turbo both had this set up. My worry is if the rolling circumference is out too much, can it cause any diff issues - winding up?
The ET offset is correct for my car I believe. A closer combination would be 295 30 as far a rolling circumference. It's just whether there would be any rubbing on a C4.

Yes the widebodied 993s had OE 285/30/18s at the back, but the shapes of the two cars are very different and tell you little about your 996.
Why don't you create a thread entitled:
'Do 285/30/18s fit on the back of a NB 996' or similar - you might get more real-owner replies.
Good luck.

My C4 currently has this set up, but they're winter tyres.
F 8" x 18" ET52 with 225 40
B 10" x 18" ET65 with 265 35
I've seen some wheels with half decent tyres for sale, but the back tyres are slightly bigger
at 285 30.
The 265 35 is 0.2"/0.8% bigger than the front.
The 285 30 is 0.4"/1.6% smaller than the front
The 285 is also 0.8" wider than the 265 too.
