Paintwork failing

Hi All,
The paint on my Chimaera has started to fail for some reason.
A milky spotty stain has appeared on the upper faces of the wings and bonnet / boot and in four locations all along the tops of the driver's side wings, the paint has blistered.

It's happened over a period of approximately 9-12 months I would say as I prep'd the car for a show last year and there wasn't any of this damage then.

My question is who would be best to assess and correct this; a body-shop or a detailer ?

As it sounds as if the clear coat is lifting I would say paint shop.

Do you use a car cover ?

This If you do use a cover be very careful to keep everything under it dry.

Any kind of moisture trapped between the cover and your paintwork,can even over a short period of time, cause paint blistering.

Someone will come along with more knowledge than me,to explain why, but apparently this happens with fibreglass cars.

+1 Contrary to popular belief paint is porous this can also affect steel cars too absolutely heartbreaking when it happens though ... bodywork needs to breath and moisture trapped over its surface long enough soaks through causing those horrible blisters or bloomy/cloudy shadows in the lacquer coat

Hi yes, now and then but it's a Leven cover so only covers the hood area.

Then my guess is the clear coat is breached allowing moisture between itself and the base coat post up a picture

I had this on my rear boot lid - and it spread like a fungus!! And far too quickly for my liking....

Had to get the boot resprayed and re-clear coated - as the clear lifts it also lifts a lot of the colour. You really have no choice but to respray the offending bit, I am afraid..

DO you know what caused it, because so far its started on teh drivers front wing and spread to the driver's rear wing. It's always at the top of the wing. The sides of the car are not affected.
I'm suspecting tree sap may have triggered it off.

Sounds like it's beyond something a detailer can do then as I suspected.
Probably looking at near on a full respray then

Only positive I can think of is, maybe now would be the time to book a trackday and not be bothered about paintwork damage!

Body shop time.

Depending on paint if you are staying same colour it shouldn't be too costly.

£80-90 a panel.

Mine's not quite at that stage but it's heading that way - I think it is 'just' the clearcoat oxidising or UV ageing over time... also contemplating patch repairs to bonnet and wing tops to keep at bay as I really don't want the full respray treatment

Anyone recommend a good paintshop. I'm in Cardiff but happy to travel for a good one.

Poor material choice/quality & compatibility can cause similar types of results over long periods too

Cheap materials can also go this way after a few years or more even on steel cars seen it all before this can be down to cheap products out of date products contamination etc etc. example .....

Still not sure. Are you saying TVR used inferior products ?

I doubt any TVR of that vintage will be on original paint quite frankly actually I think TVR used good quality paint materials

I think this is one job that Blackpool did well bodywork prep and paint work.
