I have been presented with a large quantity of very high quality wooden furniture, from 4 posters to book shelves, a mansions worth. I know nothing of such items but have been tasked with selling them. All are Oak or Mahogany, the bed needs to see £12k on its own so you can imagine the size and quality. The posts for instance are 40" diameter, the carpenter who makes them is a little suffolk chap and takes in some instances over a year to manufacture them, and has sold them as far afield as New York and Sydney but the old boy who did the selling has now past away, i have offered to help him out.
I am looking at Ebay initially, but would have to be worldwide, and the promise of 400 nigerian idiots does not appeal.
So does anybody have any idea's? I am not earning out of it so theres no money in it, but any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the sort of thing that might go down well in this part of the world, there is a big market here for very pricy Italian furniture and huge pieces from Java. When you have a mansion to fill bigger is better and some unique pieces might sell.

Thanks, this stuff most certainly is on the large side. Export is not a problem, i will take a look at distributing it to the Middle East.

Is that a typo? 3-and-a-bit feet in diameter? That's a tree-trunk, not a bed post!

Why not try some of the expensive outlets like Arighi Bianchi in Macclesfield. If you cant get them to sell it to the wealthiest people in Cheshire then ?

what about christies or southerbies or similar auction?
I would think they would take you at £12000 a bed and by the sounds of it you have some interesting providence ( is that the right word?).probably not but hey my bed cost £200

Providence would imply some luck with good fortune, especially money.

I think the word you were thinking of is provenance - "place of origin" - which would be accurate but not neccessarily of interest to Christie's, et al., unless significant age or some special ownership was also a factor.

This sounds like a VERY niche market. Did the former departed salesperson not have any records about his methods of disposition? If he did I would start there.

Or maybe the Sultan of Brunei.

Or the Beckhams - it would keep transportation costs down.
