I'm in the market for a new car now the GT3 has gone but don't want to spend as much as the GT3 was as i don't use the Porsche enough to warrant that amount of money to be tied up in it.
With that in mind i quite fancy a 996 C4s, ideally in a darker colour, so midnight blue, black or grey. I've seen this car for sale

Now this ticks a lot of boxes including the no sat nav, as i prefer the look of the retro head unit in the 996 to a dated good for nothing nav unit. However despite the advert stating full porsche and indy service history there was a gap in the servicing between 2010 and 2015 so five years no service.
During this time the car only covered 5-6k miles, however that's the same oil in it for 5 years. with the potential for engine issues in a 996 and good quality regular oil changes beneficial to the life of the engine would this be a walk away issue or would it not worry you due to the low milage covered during the time period.

if it was a rare car, may be.
But there are plenty of others.
Walk away, at that price and mileage you should expect FSH.
5 years with the same oil and filter is a looooong time. The mileage during that period is kind of irrelevant as there could have been numerous cold starts and short journeys which does a lot more damage to the engine than motorway miles.

Its my old car, she is stunning, I know most of the history and its been very well looked after. Its also a very high spec car and THE nicest 996 interior I have ever seen.
I owned it for over a year and bought from a Police Officer near Nottingham who purchased from 911 virgin.
Its got a large bill file, has had lots of new parts including clutch, alternator, brakes etc and also low temp thermo which they need.
Its got PSE and a gorgeous interior. I had it from I think 28k miles, sold at 42k 2 years ago to the head mechanic at Bob Houghton Ferrari.
The sat nav should be the last of your worries when buying one of these, its all about condition and if its been looked after.
My car was serviced on time and also had a warranty on it for 10 years, the max it can have so everything that its needed has been done up until 2012 when I acquired it.
I then spent money on general upkeep all from Porsche Cardiff.
If its still in the condition I had it in, its probably about the best out there. Its a couple grand more than the other one you are looking at but a better colour and dare I say it, a much better car.
Cameron are good guys to deal with too.

The website says deposit taken on that car, looks nice though I agree.
Oh and I don't like the look of the reversing sensors on the rear bumper, ruins the clean lines of the c4s a bit for me.

I can vouch for Cameron, they are decent, at the end of the day its down to the costumer to do some due diligence as well.

Hi Pete, I would walk. It may have sat for 5 years and done minimum miles but those miles may have been hard wearing and does not take many to damage. Especially if it was driven hard on a cold engine with 4 year old oil in it.

Well that confirms my thoughts then, I also thought the full history description was a bit rich,
Hi Fattrader, I actually prefer the 996 C4s over a gen. 1 C2S , I've seen a rather lovely gen.2 C2S with Low miles and PDK but it's 52k which I thinks a bit too strong for a C2s that's nearly six years old,

gen2 has the better engine. Still liking my Cayman definitely worth a test drive. Enjoy the search....
