Hi All

I've decided I want to change my sensible mk7 GTD for a Cayman S. Looking at the 987.2. I lost out on a private one but have spotted a potential candidate at an OPC. So, before I wade in with unrealistic expectations has anyone achieved a discount on an approved used model? Maybe got an artificially high part ex to improve the cost to change? I don't have to part ex but will do if the offer is good.

Any opinions welcome.

Thanks.

James.

987.2 are thin on the ground as you may well have seen

so yes discounts are always there esp after 3 months of non sold cars.

If a car is new in then less chance.

Personal experience from April this year, Was up for £33,595 and offered £31,000 with just one years warranty instead of the normal two, Also the condition I took out Porsche finance instead of paying all up front
At the time R's were still under 40k so I did use this to my advantage, in The way in theory, take it or leave it ill just pay the extra for an R.

Also mentioned id be putting a cash deposit there and then, as well as transferring 75% of the remaining balance over the next two days (internet transfers stopped me transferring in one go)

Cayman S 2011 with 17k on the clock for what its worth.

yes.
I've managed to get deals on all the approved used I've bought - without fail;
some more than others
(best one was where the car was advertised on PH, at a lower price than in the showroom - it was a typo - lots of head scratching but they matched it)

It's worth going for finance - even if you don't need it. You can (I believe - but please check) pay it off without penalty at any time, and you'll probably get a better deal. I wasn't aware of that, so didn't go that route.

My car had just come down over £3000 when I bought it (and looked such good value that I was suspicious!)- so the OPC wasn't prepared to offer a better deal without finance, but I got a Porsche experience thrown in and a paint treatment, neither of which cost the dealer much - nothing at all in the case of the experience.

Thanks everyone. The car is a 2009 (987.2) Cayman s with just shy of 40k on the clock. Includes xenons, PASM, sport chrono plus, PCM with Nav, sound package plus and 19's as notable options. It's based in Aberdeen and will have 2 years warranty.. Here's what I proposed.

I'll collect. I'd want to anyway but thought this might help sweeten the deal as they'd save on a trailered delivery of circa 800 mile round trip.

£19,200 part ex on the GTD. £400 more than WBAC and to be honest it would be a bit of a pain to not part ex.

£28k for the Cayman.

New rear tyres. They are at 3.5mm.

2x Porsche Cayman experiences at the silversrone centre. My best mate will accompany me for the 15hr return trip, I'll owe him!

They've said yes to everything apart from they want £29k for the Cayman. I'm not done yet though wink

What do you helpful folks think?

Maybe get them to throw in stuff that would cost you that you'd like but doesn't cost them (too much)? A free 4 wheel alignment? A tracker retrofit? A set of winter rubber? Extra warranty? Set of spare pads/discs?

I would sell your car to WBAC and offer Porsche the price in cash of a similar Cayman from a non franchised dealer plus an amount of the 2 year warranty cost, then negotiate from there. Caymans are plentiful so it's a buyer's market. Also remember that the value of all the lovely options will have been ignored by them when they acquired the car.

As an example my local Porsche dealer dropped 2K on a 24K Cayman with very little effort at all, but I didn't have a PX.

Thanks everyone. They did the deal I the end, plus a full tank of super smile

I'm happy enough. There aren't actually that many gen 2 987's Cayman S's around with reasonable specs. I wouldn't have consider one without xenons, PASM and park assist. I was looking at a private one with the same miles and similar spec that sold for £27k that I lost out on. So I'm happy enough with an extra grand as I don't need a Peter Morgan et al inspection, got a 2 year warranty, 2 years breakdown, new rear tyres and a couple of Porsche experiences thrown in.

Should be picking up from Aberdeen next Saturday, looking forward to the 385 mile drive home smile

I'll post some pics up when I get it. Can't wait biggrin

Interesting as I'm about to start looking for a 987.2 S, if i'm reading your posts right you paid £28k for it? How much was it being advertised for in the first place?

There was a well specced grey one for sale privately recently in London for about £27k, which think has gone, but from the sound of it may as well pay for the extra protection and warranty from Porsche at a dealer if they can be had for an extra £1-2k.

Hi, that well specced one from London is the one I lost out on smile I exchanged a few emails with seller, really nice chap, and I know it went for the full asking price as that was what I was offering. It was a good price compared to the other private/independent dealers asking prices. It does seem there is a little bubble type premium for 987.2's at the moment. Probably because people like us know they are the best Cayman before or since wink

The one I've purchased was up for £30k. It was pretty much the same spec as the London one minus Bose and heated seats from memory. The one I've bought has sound package plus and sport chrono plus though, so pretty similar. I think the fact it was based in Aberdeen might put a lot of people off, despite offering free delivery and/or flights paid for. I got a good part ex, new rear tyres and a couple of Porsche experiences at Silverstone thrown in. The asking prices at most OPC's are mostly a lot higher than private it seems.

Thanks, what was the mileage on it? There is one at the OPC in Belfast for reasonable money but 47k miles and silver, up for £26k but think it's been for sale for a while so probably room for movement on the price. If it was black or Aqua blue I'd be making enquiries.

37k. I spotted the Belfast one but it wasn't the right specification for me, no xenon or PASM. I imagine the Belfast factor is keeping that one around for a while. I agree, probably a deal to be done. Good luck with the continued search.

Watch out for the numerous speed cameras on th A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee, there will probably be mobile vans out as well , particularly in Dundee.

Enjoy !

Ooh, good tip smile Not been to Scotland for 5 years or so, I've heard the plod are pretty hot on speeding. To be honest I'm quite a good boy the vast majority of the time, the problem with this car will be the 'oh look here's an overtaking chance ' and before you know it 60 becomes three figures wink
