Passat/Golf estate question
Discussion
Hi - getting ready to buy a new motor and after having 10 years with my Golf have decided to stay VW loyal - I need an estate really - always fancied the Passat estate but the Golf estate looks equally tempting... I'll be looking for a recent second hand vehicle and have a budget of up to £9500..
Curious about the 1.6 Diesel Passat - is it underpowered? I've been checking out the 1.6 Diesel Golf - how does this compare? Which would you buy and why?
Any thoughts welcome
Thanks.

The 1.6 TDI is a decent enough motor. Suits the regular Golf hatch quite well from my experience, should work fine in the Estate. The 2.0 TDI CR is worth a look too as offers stronger performance and economy is about the same. Not really a lot between then in price, you'll have loads to choose from in that budget.
My choice would be the 2011 onwards shape Passat. This approved used example looks tidy benefitting from SE specification and the excellent DSG gearbox - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

If you can stretch the budget by a few hundred the current shape Octavia Estate is worth a look also - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...
Since its a generation newer it has all the latest technology from the MQB chassis as per the currently on sale Golf and Passat estates.
