And before anyone starts getting their knickers in a twist, I know it's not a supercar.

This is mainly a post about how performance has changed over the years. Not long ago those stats would've been the preserve of Italy's finest, not a 2.5 tonne living room on wheels. Incredible.

It's not a bad looking car but it's a shame they couldn't have been a bit braver on the styling. I hope its a big success and it gives Bentley a chance to make something along the lines of the bentley exp 6 and the GT3-R.

Given that it's going to cost £160,000 I think the top end Range Rovers like the SVAutobiography are basically null and void now.

This thing is incredible, I've been told by LR that they've seen how good the Bentayga is off road and it's 95% of the way there of a Rangey.

That, plus the performance and luxury? They won't be able to build them quickly enough.

Except that the Range Rover actually has a personality & style, rather than just being an anonymous VAG shape with the brand bumper, grill & lights stuck on... pre-launch you could have rebadged the betayga as the new Q7 and no one would have suspected a thing.

Why would anyone at LR admit that even if it was true? How is it even possible to judge such a percentage without even having a production one to run tests on?

Even if it was priced at £80k base with a diesel engine, I bet the Range Rover Vogue would far outsell this.

I'm sorry, but as someone who was looking forward to the launch of this car & already booked in to my local dealer's launch event / test drive thing, this is a massive disappointment and I will never drop £130k+ on something with so little personality.

The state of that design. I know a lot of wealthy customers have no taste, and that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, but come on, the Bentayga is seriously ugly compared to the Range Rover.

I also very much doubt many will be buying a Bentayga for its off-roading ability.

However, VAG has historically shown it knows what it's doing and Porsche has shown you can sell a number of pig-ugly cars on the back of branding. I'm guessing the Bentley sales team will have already sent a few brochures off to Carrington!

As long as there are footballers, rappers, gangsters in the world, this Bentley will be a sales success. It's all down to the badge, after all. I imagine the Porsche Cayenne is an excellent vehicle but it's also pig ugly, expensive, and packing some serious performance. Even now I shudder at the thought of the blinged-up custom monstrosities that will soon be rolling off the production line!

The profit margins on this thing are going to be incredible for the VAG group.

Anyone seen the Xcar video?

This whole "it has so little personality" think just looks like people trying to justify hating something for no real reason.

Incorrect. When I talk about personality with regards to the appearance of a car, I am talking about whether there is something unique, interesting or just plain sexy about it's design & the character that design gives the car. Put simply, 'it has no personality' = the design is uninspired & bland.

I will still go to the local dealer's launch event / test drive, maybe it's going to look better in person or in a different colour. However, if it still looks like a Q7 with different finishing touches, then I don't care how fast it goes, I will not be buying one as I enjoy having a car that I can admire from the outside as well as the inside - especially at this price level.

Looks ste.....it's a Q7 with a Bentley badge. The Rolls Royce variant will show it the way.

No need for that really was there?

You do realise the top end RR is nowhere near 160k. Completely different price point.

Saw them out on the road near the Bentley Factory, look a lot less ugly in the flesh, still not a looker though.

I spent a fair amount of time at the factory and have seen these over the past couple of years in development. It looks very Cayenne-like in the flesh but a huge amount of development and engineering has gone into every aspect, including the W12 which is quite different to the earlier versions of this engine.

I don't like 4x4's as I consider them pointless for the road but this will certainly be a great car and hit the target demographic perfectly. It will be far more special to sit in and drive than any Range Rover, as befits the price tag.

Interesting timing though in that their biggest market for this car (China) is in financial turmoil, they have a ton of newly opened dealerships in China (62 I think) who were eagerly awaiting this car, in fact their whole business model was geared around this car as the GT, Spur and Mulsanne are getting quite old now.
