DB9 back seat .... Rapide instead?
Discussion
Hi all,
I've been hankering after a DB9 since I first put eyes to one. I'm in the position to get one. YAY!!
I took a test drive today and it was everything I could possibly have hoped for. However, I didn't realise just how teeny-tiny the back seat is.
We have a 4 year old, and I'm not convinced even he would be very comfortable back there.
Do people actually use the back seat for people rather than bags? Who realistically can fit in?
For the most part, the back seat wouldn't be used, but I kind of assumed that we would be able to use a DB9 to take a family drive to the local country pubs..
Would a Rapide be a better option?

I have a DB9 and 2 kids - an 8 year old and a 7 year old. They just fit in and I am 6 foot 6. I do need the seat far back but I have to move it forwards a bit to give my daughter room for her legs.
My 8 year old boy has to sit behind the passenger seat as he can't fit behind mine now.
I think it depends on how tall you and your mrs are and how long you plan on keeping the car.

Wow, I can't imagine how you do that!My 8 year old boy has to sit behind the passenger seat as he can't fit behind mine now.

I'm under 6' and I can't get the seat comfy and have a passenger behind me (unless they have no legs!). The Mrs is slightly taller and moans that the seat won't go back far enough to be comfy. I removed the rear seat cushion just in case, but the seat stops where the cushion would be anyway

Maybe I need to fiddle with the seat position some more, but I guess it mostly depends on the body proportions and how close/upright you want to sit.
DB9V here. Daughters 11 and 13. Can take the family for a ride if the top is down and both seats full forward. No its not comfortable but I can tolerate it for an hour or so. I've ridden in the back behind the passenger to prove a point but am up high and take the wind in the face. I suppose ill give in and admit its a two seater in a year or so.
I have a DB9 and use it as a three seater.
I'm 6'3'' and would struggle to get anyone sitting behind me. My boys, aged 11 and 9, can fit in the passenger side (one front, one rear) with the front seat moved forward, somewhat. Rear headroom is just about OK for the 11 year old (c 5' tall), but may not be in another year or two. It works fine for most journeys, but I wouldn't wish to impose a 3 hour trek on them, like that.
One more thought - it is not just the amount of space in the back. With the tall front seats and limited window area back there, it can feel quite claustrophobic. A lighter interior colour will make it feel less so than a dark interior.
Pop to a dealer to try them out, side by side. Grange and McGurk's were both very helpful for me, in that respect.
Enjoy the search,
David

I hadn't heard of a Rapide until I looked in the back of a DB9 and then my heart sank! Well my daughter aged 11 is taller than many of her teachers!
Two points - the Rapide is a big car in a car park but shrinks on the road - its so nimble and doesn't feel big after the first week (I did have a 'ohh shugar, what have I done, this is a BIG car moment first few days).
If you feel you wont be able to take the Aston at any point to go to something that should be for the family then you made the wrong choice. They are too expensive to leave at home and use the DD! For me that would be the height of frustration.

I didn't 'get' the Rapide either. I just figured it was an Aston for the guy that wasn't allowed a weekend toy and the wife wouldn't let him buy a 9 because she couldn't fit Fi-Fi and Tarquin in it.
Then I hammered one round Millbrook with all the little switches set in 'needs talent' mode.
Proper capable car. I had a mis-spent youth and although I don't claim to be a particularly exceptional driver, I do like to explore a cars limits from time to time. The Rapide S was very easy to do this with, very confident on the corners.
I shall boast that the tame racing driver sat aside me even gave me a plaudit for the few laps I did in this car. I think he may have just been releived I didn't put it in the Armco but who knows!
Nice inside and makes a reasonable attempt at sounding good too. Just a shame it's got a proper ugly gopping grille.
Have I changed my mind enough about it to buy one? Maybe...
If I couldn't have two cars, and for whatever reason had to have only one car that met my needs then yes. I would.
