Re the bonnet shuts on each side(at the side of the bonnet catch plates)...should there be some sort of rubber seal attached here for the bonnet to close down on?
Thinking of something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4M-D-Type-Car-Truck-Van-...
My car has no continuous seal here, just a couple of small bits of rubber, randomly placed, not seeming to do a lot.
This car in the sale ads has no rubber bits, but a shiny bit of metal at the front...?

I believe "standard" are rubber pads, as appear to be fitted to this car, yellow circle

I have also seen various pads of foam/rubber in the green circle area.

Anything in the purple area has, I think, been fitted by a previous owner

Thanks,my eyesight is going because I see now that that is a rubber pad and not a shiny plate!
Just looked at the car and that shut line is pretty tight,so any rubber seal all the way along would need to be rather thin to allow the bonnet to close.
TBH I think I'm on the wrong track here anyway, the thought was that rattles from the front might be the bonnet moving around but, trying by hand to move it,it seems tight and secure enough.
....anyway aren't odd shakes and rattles just part of the wonderful S driving experience?smile

If you think your bonnet is moving around, try getting hold right at the front between the lights and lifting it, it's quite heavy. When I stripped mine I noticed how worn the bolts that make up the bonnet hinge was, there was a lot of play which allows the bonnet to jump and clunk in the hinges when going over bumps.

Good luck.
Carl.

I have rubber strips in the positions you've marked. I also have a corresponding rubber pad on the underside of the tips of the bonnet where it touches the scuttle. This stops the bonnet rubbing on the wing and scuttle and avoids damaging the paint. Well worth having.

Lifted the car as above,no trace of hinge play.
It moved without too much effort actally, suggesting to me that the front shocks might be on the soft side...but let's put that one aside for another day!
