Returned home from the Ace Cafe meet yesterday and parked up outside the house. Opened up the garage and tried to restart the car. It turne over, but only ran on a few cylinders for a very short time and subsequently only turned over on the key. Pushed the car into the garage and tried the fob to lock up - Nothing happened. Again this morning the same symptoms. I have had the fob tested and it is sending a good signal.
The car has a steering column immobiliser, operated by an up market can ring pull and the Gemini car alarm system. I`m assuming that the petrol pump has been isolated by what is now a defunct immobiliser, and am preparing to spend £450ish on a new system. Is their likely to be any other reason for the problem.
The car is running very well normally and I have done about 600 miles a month over the last 6 months.

gemini is the original and suseptable to water etc.

normally below the headlamp cowl pass side.

immobiliser usually has an LED on it.
flashing - imobilised
solid - on fitting actuator
out - off

the bad running points to something else. if the alarm imob had failed i would have expected a no start at all. not partial.

it is a possibility.

are you getting fuel pump noise, spark etc.

if a spark is there, imob is likely to be ok.
probably has twin lines for fuel, ignition.


could even be the coil! £22

do some checking before £450!


BTW fusing for alarm/imob is via horn fuse.

£450 sounds a lot. I had a state of the art Clifford fitted to the wife's 206 for only £230 all in.

And I had a proper TVR/Meta done for c £300 last year.

Thanks for your comments. Made me think I shouldnt rush to buy a new system. Instead I checked fuses relays and followed the wiring through to the alarm, where I found an added pair of wires running to a switch in the glove box. Whoever had installed it had re-used the switch and several joined pieces of wire from another installation. I removed the offending switch and wires, cleaned up the contacts on the Gemini alarm unit and to my suprise petrol guage worked, door locking fob worked and the car starts. Fingers crossed I may have solved the problem for the time being. Better cancel me provisional booking.
