Do you have to be good at numerical and verbal reasoning test to perform a job?

I have seen many companies asking candidates to sit on third party designed numerical and verbal reasoning test to go through the next stage but i think if someone is not good at those test doesn't mean he is not enough for the job.

It depends.

The ability to be fast and accurate in your work is relevant for many jobs.

But it is a bit useless for creative jobs, or manual roles.

Have been taking them for 20+ years.

I either sink or score off the scale with the SHL (Numerical/Verbal/Cognitive) tests but seldom in the middle. The theory is that this should not happen.

Some organisations will not invite you for interview if do not "pass" - I am looking at the snack food manufacturer that Gary Lineker loves.

Sort of see the logic in them but given my personal experience - they are used poorly. In essence they should be used to compliment other findings to form an overall picture.

You are able to practice which will improve technique which is different from "intelligence".

Also a key point to appreciate - you can answers fewer questions correctly and achieve a higher pass score than answering all the questions (poorly).
