Hello all.

I took my 2007 V8 Vantage in for a service last week and got an advisory for a split driveshaft boot.

"Oh, that doesn't sound too bad" I thought... but it now appears the boot is only available when you buy the full driveshaft kit!

Driveshaft boot
Part = £560.40 inc VAT (driveshaft)
labour = 1.5 hours at £156inc VAT per hour = £234.00

So my question is - does anyone know where I might be able to get the boot on it's own? Replacing the whole driveshaft just for the sake of a split boot seems excessive!

Any help will be gratefully received.

Shocking.

Hope you can find a rubber gaiter.
Wonder if the driveshafts are supplied by GKN?
The identical rubber part is probably also fitted to other makes of car.

No idea if they can help but they've gotten me parts in the past for some odd Jap cars I've had.

Pretty sure you can just get a universal driveshaft kit as well:

Thanks for the replies.

I've found universal kits such as these online:

It's only a rubber boot at the end of the day, so not worried about it being OEM... should I be?

Hi

I would recommend not using the set which need to be glued, they are a pain in the back side.
It was not on a AM but on a Caterham, bought a set of one which needed to be glued and I end up buying a second set to slide on.

All AM driveshafts are made by GKN as far as I know but I am pretty sure. GKN is using the same boot for many different driveshafts. There is a part number on every boot. GKN does have a cross-reference list and can tell you which other car manufacturers using identical boots.

I know someone at GKN Germany which I can maybe ask, but I need GKN OEM part number.

I just cant believe you cant just buy the boot alone. Shocking - its a bog std car driveshaft boot that any garage can change - its also pretty simple DIY - literally just a few big bolts and then pull! Then treat yourself to a full 4 wheel alignment...

Thanks for the info chaps.

The car is currently with a local garage who are looking to see if a universal boot will fit ok.

I have another couple of daft questions that aren't worthy of starting another thread. Any input appreciated...

1. Do all (any) 2007 V8 Vantages come with locking wheel nuts as standard?

2. My front brake pipe elbows are starting to corrode. Is it worth replacing them with aftermarket items, if so, which?

Thanks in advance.

No, this is optional.

I remember Goodridge had some stainless brake lines for the Vantage but I am not sure if they still have. Otherwise the OEM part does not cost that much...

Thanks for the input.

I found a Goodridge stockist with braided lines advertised for 'V8 Vantage' but when queried it transpired they were for the classic V8 Vantage.

The OEM parts seem to be between £25 and £35 each depending on which Aston dealership you ask. I just wondered if there were improved ones available elsewhere that wouldn't corrode again in a few years.
