Guys

Over the past 3 weeks i have visited or spoken to 4 Merc dealers and 1 other marque dealer re: used C63's.

The cars were £33k - £36k and the best deal could get from any of the Merc dealers was a £750 dealer contribution and a free service - am I in cloud cook-coo land expecting to get a bit more of a discount?

It interesting that the land rover dealer (the none merc dealer i visited) dropped the car by £2.5k over the phone - i would ave gone for it but it was the first one i had seen and didn't at that time want to move on the car without looking at some others (my mistake...).

So my questions are:
1 - do merc just not offer a decent discount used cars?
2 - is there a benefit to buying it from merc if its still got a manufacturer warranty? I know 2 local used car dealers who sell used sports cars, but I've always bought from a main dealer....

I know it shouldn't annoy me but the lack of willing versus what we previously got from BMW, Land Rover and Lotus is really frustrating - is this typical of Merc used car sales?

Cheers
M

I'd say Merc dealers would have paid more for their cars as the LR dealer wouldn't have ideally wanted a px from another brand. That's most likely why the price was more flexible. That and you don't get the Merc extras from the LR dealer. Items such as extra years warranty if asked for etc.

Hi - thanks for coming back to me. I take your points but I still find it odd that the best deal from 4 different dealers (different chains) were identical?

Where the cars similar? Don't forget also that MB dealers are not independent of each other in reality. The used car search engine is a national database so prices will have to be the same / near same for similar cars and specs. The dealers can compete but the baseline is probably set by mbuk and not your salesman.

What spec are you after? Have you asked notax if he is selling privately or pxing?

I would ideally like a silver coupe or estate with 19's.

Is it possible that Merc dealers know from past experience that there's a certain level of demand for the C63 and that they're likely to sell at a certain price (for a given example) within a certain time, so the general policy is based on no real need to offer larger discounts? Just a thought, possibly wrong.

I got £1k off mine from a MB dealer, I could have got more but I asked them to carry our some work instead, i.e. they fitted a new windscreen due to a few tiny chips and repainted the front bumper due to a few stone chips. I also got 6 months tax. Not great but I was happy as the car was quite well priced anyway and at the time they were doing 2 year extended warranty on AMG's.

And good luck with the search for the right car.

Should have added the £1k was in addition to the £750 finance contribution, I also maganed to get a few % knocked off the rate as there was no way I was paying 9.9%. Taking into account the £750 contribution there was neglible difference between Oracles quote.

I just got a fairly significant chunk off a main dealer used car, similar spec/price to what you were looking at.

Send me a prviate message and I'll let you know what I got.

I've had the same experience recently with cars being sold very quickly. I've been making sensible offers on dealer cars (£34-38k) but they seem to be selling very quickly at close to sticker price. I've missed out on 4 in the last couple of months.
I assume that there's a decent demand as people realise that you get a lot of car for the money and they won't make anything like it again.

I bought my used 2012 C63 from MB Birmingham back in January and from memory negotiated about £1,000 off (unseen, over the phone) relatively easily. To be fair it was quite competitively priced and so I didn't push particularly hard.

However, when I went to collect the car and tried squeezing a bit more out of them as there were a few stone chips and the wheels were less than immaculate, they wouldn't move at all - claiming there was nothing left in the price. How much of that was true or whether it was because I was in a very weak negotiating position I wouldn't know...

Different model, but got 4k off my E63 Bi-turbo after making a cheeky offer without seeing it.

I was very surprised to get a call back from the dealer accepting.
