Hi there. Long time lurker first time posting because I've only just got something worthy of postingcloud9
I'm currently doing my apprenticeship at a local franchise garage and when this car came in I fell in love straight away.
Insurance was surprising as an 18 year old, and because of the discounts I receive from my work I managed to get a finance deal that I could live with. My original plan was to go with something cheap and cheerful and I know finance isn't everyone's cup of tea but I still feel I made the right decision.
It's a 2011 BMW 118d Sport, unfortunately not the M-Sport but not really a deal breaker for me. It has replica CSL wheels in 18" which will either be getting replaced or refurbished, and I believe it's lowered on bilsteins but unsure how much it has been lowered by as previous owner did not pass any info on about them. It's done 35k miles and has full service history, and its a dream to drive, especially coming from a 1.2 Corsa D.
Without further ado here she is:

And here's a few pictures from when my mate got his new car:

Future plans are to get myself a set of leather front seats, cupholders, K&N panel filter and a Milltek exhaust to get it breathing freely and moving a little quicker. I'd also like to get a slight smoke on the rear lights and remove the rear window tint to be replaced with something lighter, night time visibility = 0 with the tint on it just now!
It may not be to everyone's taste but I love it and plan to keep it to a very high standard.
Thanks for reading

Very nice, especially at 18. Those replica's do really suit it.

My only gripe is why BMW allow the word sport to follow 118d. It know its just a trim but still.....

Very nice car for an 18 year old well done!
Re the exhaust etc, I really wouldn't bother in any way shape or form... Just put the money towards a remap as IMO that would be the more rewarding mod. Plus with it being the 118d it'll remap to close to 200bhp won't it the same as the 120d?

With a nice set of wheels I don't think it makes much difference not having MSport TBH. Looks OK to me.

Don't just buy the fronts, it'll look stupid, get a full set. Make sure you get the ones from an MSport, they'll hold you in much better and are (IMO) a lot comfier than SE leathers.

K&N, fair enough. Wouldn't bother with an exhaust TBH. Just get it mapped up. These go to 180BHP IIRC.

Insurance might cripple you with the mods, though!

Very nice. Regarding spending money on mods, I would spend it on driver training instead.

Cheers guys, I'm just thankful to have the opportunity to own something like this as a first car to be honest.
Regarding mods, the money is being spent on driver training just now that's why it's future plans. Also I believe it's different injectors and turbo on the 118 compared to the 120, not put too much thought into it as I'm not in a position to throw money at it yet.
Only thing I've purchased for it so far is a set of pressed plates.
Will update this slowly but surely

Good choice...improving your driving is the best upgrade.

Ignore those who piss take on your 118d....it's not a slow car.

First thing to do is call your local BMW garage and ask about the n47 recall, (I had all the timing gear replaced for free on my 09 318d) Its worth it for piece of mind to avoid the dreaded cam chain issues.

My 3 series with the same engine is good for just shy of 200 BHP with some 320d injectors, panel filter and a remap.

Excellent car for your age smile

You can get ones that clip into vents, or theres the ones that come from the factory in some cars, they're the ones I want. Comes in a centre console and you replace the whole thing. That's what I've gathered so far

Does this remove the risk of a ruined engine? Im looking at 320d's to replace my 330i at the moment and I'm limiting myself to the older versions (most quite leggy now) and newer versions (still quite expensive), because of the chain horror stories. I know a couple of people who fell foul of it and I don't fancy the risk, if they've fixed then my options would be much broader.

Apparently they upgrade the tensioners and also fit a new chain so I'd assume (Hope) that the risk of damage is eliminated. Having said that my 320d has been really reliable in the 20k i've run it for (Currently on 95k) No swirl flaps to worry about on the newer engine either smile

I really like the red leather interior, I'm in two minds really, I could go for the cheaper half leather and have it sooner or wait and save and get the red. The standard cloth seats are comfy enough so I'm swaying towards the latter.
