This looks like a really nice original car, what do you guys think about the price though!

How many more of these could be out there with similar mileage??? That also goes for more modern VXR8`s.biggrin

In my view not worth it as soon as miles go on its value will fall like a stone and I think its overpriced to start with anyway. Not even in the best colour black. Items still perish in cars that are just sat around and they can have a real hissy fit at first when starting to be actually used.

I think that depends if you want one that is not thrashed, still in its original paint and no stone chips unworn seats, and still smells like new. In my view there are to many X press and Vauxhall stunt cars, and other moded thrashed one's around. Anybody who buys the car is likely to use it as second or third car as it would appeal more to a collector so the miles are less likely to build with pace.
Bear in mind I must have travelled all over the country back in 2010 to find decent one ( looked at around 8 cars) and gave up and bought a VXR8 instead with 4k on the clock and mint, and I had to look at few VXR8's before I found that one, and that's 5 years ago!.Biggest issue for me is how bad they all were on the underside, they were cheap to buy at the tîme when new and that shows in the care most received from new. I have had a few TVR's and those suffer as similar fate, finding a good original car still in original paint, all its paint on the chassis low miles and top late models as in Chimaera 500 or Griffin 500LE is very rare and going ballistic in value.
I might add also you should read the Ad the car was used regularly on a private drive. I have also put a good few miles on and serviced it. So no hissy fits.... I do boats these days so you don't have to explain sitting around hissy fits that is something I am more than aware of.I was raised in motor trade, spanners paint and parts and my father and grandfather before which is probably why I am so fussy with my own vehicles.

Oh red is always the best whatever the car...

Vauxhall classics don't have the same following of the TVRs, in fact most Vauxhall classics don't have a following at all and are generally unloved by the community at large.
Good luck with the sale but it's not going to go to a collector.

Think you will find Dropsnoot Frienza's , Chevette HSR , Manta 400's and Lotus Carltons are quite collectable. I have little doubt the Monaro VXR will go the same way and more so. However I think the VXR8 will take longer to gain classic status as it is just to much like a pumped up Vectra apart from limited edition Bathurst models.

All very collectable yes, but not really doing that well.
Even the Delorean has overtaken the LC and the Cossie is in the stratosphere.
You could have the other three for the price of a mk 1 Escort Mexico or 1 1/2 CooperS 's.
Personally I'd rather the three on your list (as an enthusiast)but I'm deffo in the minority and speculators are beginning to have an effect on the mid range classic car market now so the gulf is going to widen, at least in the short term.

Don't really think of the monaro as a Vauxhall,Holden in my eyes, am sure at some stage it will be a classic not sure how much they will be worth though, think if anyone was to buy as a investment would be very speculative indeed, after owning mine for 6 years I have never considered the value, only the joy I have had during ownership, mine has never been a daily and never will be, also I will never part for two reasons, would never get a chance to get another good one in a million years as good as mine, and never fails to excite and put a smile on my face every time I drive, the monaro in standard form is by no means fast, but it feels it whilst driving can't beat a v8 with a wortec, heaven

Is the price really that high for something which is almost new. I'd rather this than an eco focus or whatever they are called nowadays. Doubt it will be collectable but if looked after for 10yrs I am sure it will hold some residual value when we are all driving hybrids around.

That's your opinion. It's his car and he doesn't think so - as he's told me many times, "it's there if he wants to use it."

As most of the Monaros rust, fall to pieces, suffer abuse or eventually get written off, we will eventually be left with a few well preserved examples.

Nobody cares what happens to the VXR8s.

It's not a waste Barny. If people like Wormus's dad didn't save cars now, then you wouldn't be able to revisit the past.

I'm with S800. If you are buying on condition, then it's a stonking deal. Even if you budget £5k for replacement bushes because they have perished, you'd still be in the low £20ks, which will get you a Corsa VXR with similar mileage.

Also, like S800, I love my BMW. Buying a 70k mile example for just over £1k was a bargain IMHO. I'm so thankful that the average mileage with its previous owners was only just over 4k per year.

I can see both sides of the argument, however look at it this way....

Someone bought that car new for around £36k. After just 4k miles it has lost £20k. Did the first owner get £20k of fun out of it? I doubt it.

I bought my Monaro 3 years ago and used it daily for 2 years doing upwards of 10k miles each year. It's now got 59k on the clock and only lost a couple of grand at worst.

Drive it and enjoy it.

It is a complete and utter waste to not drive any car. A car's main purpose, the purpose it is designed for, is to be driven.

And wormus, doesn't sound like he wants to drive it that much anyway, so is therefore a massive fking waste of a great car.

You're both assuming that the owner thinks like yourself.

What if their enjoyment is from polishing the car? You can't just work on miles per £, as some people don't tick like that.

I don't understand it either, but without them, we would lose so many more cars.

Again, only in your opinion. He bought it new 10 years ago, just before he had a stroke (and probably whilst you were still at school smile) so finds it difficult to drive now he's 74, it's not his main car either.

My own, rather modified Monaro is one of 4 cars (and one motorbike) in my household so doesn't get used much either but I still love owning and driving it on sunny days. Only last weekend I gave it a bloody good clean before putting it back in the garage again. Didn't even get it off the drive. Is that a waste too?

In short, you'd be better off keeping your opinions to yourself....in my opinion wink
