After a bit of info.

I went with a friend to look at a 996 yesterday but even with the seat fully back and lowered he couldn't sit in comfortbaly, knees to close in to steering wheel! The guy at Nick Whale said that he wasn't aware of any possible mods, but surely it's possible to move the rails back further? There was a good 3 inches of floor space between the seat back and rear seats.......

Hi, I had that problem, the trouble you have change your driving position slightly, in my previous cars (E46 M3) I preferred the steering wheel as close to the dash as possible. In my 2002 C4S I had to pull the wheel out a little to gain that little extra room for my knees. Takes some getting used to but it's worth it.

I never could get particularly comfortable in my 996..same reasons you quote Stu. One thing though, did you try standard seats or sports seats? Standard are marginally better as can be lowered a little more.

One option might be to fit GT3 seats. I'm 6'4" and am very comfortable in my GT3 although I'd struggle if there was any less room. As big.bad.wolfie has pointed out pulling the wheel out towards you gives a little extra knee room.

Cheers folks. It was a C4S with standard seats and steering wheel fully forward!

I wonder if it's worth him speaking to Porsche UK?

Smaller rimmed steering wheel would give extra knee room.

Most late model C4S's have the sports seats as standard. If seats have got ears it's got sports seats. I suggest your friend try the various combinations of lowering the seat, pulling the wheel out and eventually you'll find a comfortable position.

If failing that then be prepared for some additional expenditure either with GT3 seats or some Recaros.

Wow,

I might must out of the norm, I am 6"6 and I find it quite comfortable. but yes I agree I do have the steering wheel pulled all the way out.
