I am not a dainty fella, 6'4 and until recently, the wrong side of 18 stone.

Just turned 46 at the end of August, needed to get a grip and sort my sh*t out.

In June I attended a wedding wearing size 42 trousers. Last week I was shopping for new clothes at size 36.

For 5 days of the week I am a lorry driver, my weakness has been the drama of the garage delights - sh*tty food, sweet snacks, easy calories etc etc............badness and then some.

I am now running a routine which suits me - I know already that many folk will shoot me down in flames for my choice of intake but hey, I am the master of my own destiny, come what may.

Breakfast - 1 pint of skimmed milk.

Lunch - 1 pint of skimmed milk and, if needed, 1 x banana or apple.

Dinner - whatever Mrs Scouse presents.

I drink copious amounts of water during the day and feel quite content as it goes.

I ease off at the weekend, a little more food, some beer, a little relaxed.

I do feel very good within myself, my issue is with the continuation of the diet when my pre-planned exercise scenario kicks in.

Comments please.

Well payed so far chief, sounds like progress.
Must be hard doing lorry work - sedantry, but also tiring so probably hard to get motivated to do cardio in the evening. No idea what you have planned, but if you're a big lad and hate running, try cycling. I take the bike when i travel and filling in random parts of the map on Strava is quite motivational - keeps me out of the hotel bar too smile

The exercise will kick in once the excess timber is discarded, at the current rate I expect to be sub 15 stone by the end of September.

Then it starts.

Well of course your diet is nonsense but I expect you realise that. I must confess to being a little bit concerned that a lorry driver is on the roads with no real sustenance inside him. Food is not just for the body but for normal brain functionality too.

Why did you choose this route? why not an omelette or oats for breakfast and some lean meat and veg for lunch? I suspect you know what a healthy diet is but have chosen not to go there, why? sheer obstinance?

Maybe, my "wrong" choice is only temporary to allow me to reach the weight point as quickly as possible.

Then a sensible food route combined with some physical activity will be the order of the day.

Terrible diet, and not at all healthy. I would say you're probably damaging your health more.

I would suggest you avoid temporary quick win diets, and think of long term diet.... It's simple and you probably know it already - lots of fresh cruciferous veg, lean protein, unrefined carbs, nuts, fruit and avoid processed sugars and carbs. Start exercising NOW. Then eat what you want at the weekend (within reason).

That is a strange diet. Are you supplementing your nutritional needs with multi vits?

Milk has a low GI so if unflavoured it may not give an insulin spike.

Some studies have linked high intakes of milk with weight loss.

Maybe OP is onto something.

Exercise would have been more suitable to have been introduced earlier, at the start. From what you've described you'll be shedding good weight (muscle/bone) along with the 'bad' weight (fat) as you diet, which what happens with most faddy modern diets. Exercising at the same time would prevent this and help you achieve a healthier life (helps keep you out of hospital) as you age. You've done the best to make things as difficult as possible when you do start the exercise. But if you start at a very low level, you can ameliorate this circumstance.

Are you sure that insulin doesn't merely open fat cells? How is that 'triggering fat storage'?

I'd have thought on the OP's diet his calorie intake is low enough that any insulin spike would be inconsequential... .

I understand why you have chosen that particular diet plan.

It makes sense. It is easy to stick to, and best of all you are seeing results. I have followed similar in the past.

What I would say is that it is not sustainable, and of course you know that.

I would suggest, at the least, buy something like a nutribullet. In the morning, stick a whole load of fruit and veg in there, and have that for your lunch drink, instead of the second pint of skimmed milk. This will be of much more benefit. It will introduce some fresh fruit and greens into your diet. Add nuts, oats as you wish. I find it works well.

For the breakfast, perhaps change the pint of milk to something else, or even another smoothie you make with what you like.

Similar mentality to your current diet, but a lot more healthy. Try it!

Yes to this.

OP - I'm guessing this diet is attractive because a pint of milk is pretty easy to buy regardless of where you end up? However, I'd certainly be swapping the pint of milk in the morning for something with more substance - cereal, toast etc. I'd then get rid of the pint of milk for lunch and have a fruit salad.

A strange question however I'm guessing your bowel movements aren't great at the moment? You seem to have a chronic lack of fibre in your diet, unless you eat Shredded Wheat, porridge and brown bread for dinner.

Overall though, good effort on the weight loss!

The toilet situation was a bit difficult, my cashew nut habit (recently started) seems to have eased that situation.

I love milk, always have, it was a simple way to start something off.

I have never been a great vegetable eater so not much going on there.

Having a celebration night off tomorrow - a steak/salad and a pud!!! Got some nice Red to wash it down.

By the end of this month I expect I will be at the target I am aiming for, then I can go from crash diet to managing myself better.

My old habits are well and truly knocked on the head, the excess baggage is almost history - just the long haul now of common sense, strict with the choices and some regular exercise. All of which I am guilty of mass neglect.

I do know my initial start on the weight loss was quite aggressive/abnormal/crazy but as mentioned, it was manageable from my point of view and I did score the goal I was aiming for.

So, here we go, jogging, light weights and possibly some cycling in the near future.

Sounds good.

Keep us informed (not about your poo though, I don't really want to know about that).

Looks alright to me.

Unless you're some kind of highly-strung athlete, if you're eating roughly the right calories and roughly the right nutrients you'll be fine. All this superfoods/anti oxidant/nuts and seeds for breakfast is a nutritionists wet dream. You'll soon know if you need more fibre. hehe
