HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
After 10 months rebuilding the engine the only thing that stands between me and those thunderous sounds of my 1986 350 again is the starter motor.
After exchanging my original six month ago (never never do this) only to find it fouls the manifold, i am still trying to find a starter that fits. (original unit gone).
Have tried a 9M90 so close but so far
Tried various short casing Rover units.
Does anyone have a definative part no? Supplier? Or a solution.
I have tried the usual factors & RT Racing.. no joy .
Any help descriptions would be greatfully recived.

Had the same problem on my 400 in the early days - there is a thinner starter motor available - and it is still a Landy part.. no need for the hammer
would imagine it's the one mentioned earlier by Paul - suggest trying Peninsula for it - alternatively contact a Land Rover Specialist - they may have an idea which one it is.

So checking is still the name of the game.
Ideally you need a small hi torque motor as used in the Griff and Chimaera. These are small and ideal. That is what I use on the 520and I have plenty of clearance. They occassionally come up on ebay. Used on the serpentine Range Rovers and others. Usually made by Bosch.
Why not get one and sell the other?

Have you tried Rimmers.
They list "Small type starter motor" and "Uprated HI- Torque"
Don't know sizes - may be worth talking to them.
