Okey my business partner has a meeting in Norway she needs to go to.

Around about 2011 or 2012 she was busted speeding in Norway and given a ticket (detected by a policeman, not a camera, handed a ticket by the policeman). Don't know the speed involved but she was allowed to continue driving and since really excessive speeds result in an instant ban in Norway, the speed can't have been really outrageous. Passport apparently was not produced, so only info the police have is the driving licence info.

Anyway fine did not get paid. Fine can't be paid now anyway as it was 4 years ago an biz partner has no idea where the documents are.

Biz partner will be arriving in Norway by air from the UK. They are not planning on driving in Norway.

Is there any danger of arrest at the airport?

Trip to Norway can't be avoided so if there is any danger of an arrest warrant for an unpaid speeding fine being there, they will have to go a few days early with a wedge of cash, just in case.

I googled this up and couldn't find any reports of arrest at an airport of entry due to unpaid speeding fines, but any further info would be welcome. In particular, what actually happens as opposed to what could theoretically happen would be good to know.

Your "business partner" (wife?) is gonna get busted as soon as she gets there, criminal scum running from her past crimes, how do you feel about euro drivers running from speeding tickets here, etc.

That was all a pisstake/in jest/PH argument mode. I have no idea but I don't think I'd let it worry me. It's speeding from 4 years ago. Hardly the BrinksMat robbery. If no passport details were taken then, then how can they be sure it's even the same person, assuming they have a relatively normal name? smile

Speeds would have needed to be below +30% on the speed limit, as that is the time it tends to become ban/ prison time. Generally over here a lot of stuff is done on computers so there is a risk it will flag it up on the system. However often these are not interlinked and so she may get off without being found out. Sorry, not much more than that!

Fly to Sweden & get the train to Norway. It's a free travel area so no document checks.

Don't know about Sweden/Norway , but I can confirm I've flown to Holland ( Schipol ) and taken the train to Germany ( Osnabruck ) without any checks : the train didn't even stop at the border .

They sometimes do custom checks, but they are both in the schengen area so no immigration checks, unless they have a specific reason.

And they are sporadic. Driving a Swedish or Norwegian registered vehicle you are unlikely to attract any interest.

If you turn up by air from the UK on a British passport, do the Norwegians scan it? Or is it like when you enter France on the Eurotunnel and the French don't usually even look at the passport?

I was there (Stavanger) this week having flown from the UK. Immigration only wanted to see the picture and didnt even take the passport off me. Same for everyone else around me other than a couple of people getting stamps in their passports pressumably as they weren't EU/Norwegian - even this didn't seem to warrant scanning of the passport though.

I suspect being a flight from inside the EU means they don't see the need to check. Anyhow, I hear Norwegian jails are pretty nice!

So unless they have a list of names of every foreigner that has not paid a fine and check every name of every person coming in from the same country as the licences were issued, I think your partner will be fine.

I didn't get stopped in July, driving a British reg car into Norway on the road from Arvika to Kongsvinger.

I left only a couple of hours later on a more minor road with some sort of customs building that looked unmanned.

Not scanned just checked. If they think something is amiss then they scan it.

having lived in Norway for some time, I can tell you that in theory they can stop you, but I've never known them to actually do the check, you will be ok,

Heh. I was also in Stavanger last week. You weren't the guy sat in the airport leafing through an Alfa Romeo Owner's manual were you? that would be properly spooky coincidence.

They have been making random stops as you deplane/board at Sola for a while now.

If it was deemed serious enough, they would arrest her on the plane then take her off.

I'm a little surprised there was no further paperwork sent to her UK address after the fine was
not paid on time.

Never been stopped at any EU border whilst on the train nor whilst driving.

Although never driven into Norway.
