Hi all. Can anyone identify from the pics' the header tank origin that I have fitted. Leaking when pressurized. Is it a Ford item maybe? Thanks for any replies. John C.

Hi John...It was a ford item but looks like someone has seriously chopped it about..I have an exchange one that i swapped for a good one to help someone out of trouble..So i guess the exchange one might help you out..I need to do a small repair on it and check it over but i think it only has a tiny crack which is simples to fix...However there are no rules...A friend fitted a mere one to his but didn't need all the in and outs so capped some of them off...As long as the outlets are the same size and has a near fitting to the bulkhead, Which can be altered.

I will dig it out and have a look at it...

Thanks Zig/Marcus, mine has two inlets at the top, one from the rad' the other from the top of the engine, plus the main connection underneath. Any offerings will be gratefully received Zig for reciprocal beer tokens of course. Is your previous kind offer of re-fabricating my Granda air box still current Zig? Now that "Wesley" is running on all cylinders he will soon. be going into winter workshop to begin suspension /brake refurbishment. Thanks again for the replies. Cheers John C.

Just an update on the header tank. I've found a picture on Rimmer's site of a TR7 V8 expansion tank, (Out of Stock of Course!) which looks very much like my item. Obtainable who knows?spin Thanks for the replies. John C.

Well, so much for my dodgy memory !! Would make sense I've seen it, but I was very wrong

John, if it's expensive, anything within reason will do. The original wedge (Capri) ones are very hard to find, and many of the older style plastic ones split (mine split by one of the outlets). So my view is that pretty much anything you can find will probably work.

The early setups in carbed Cortinas and Granadas just had a single small pipe connected from the top of the engine (or top of radiator with a non-pressure blank cap), so it doesn't actually need all the multiple pipework. People say it's for air bubbles etc. but if you use the top of engine they will get flushed out anyway.... This 2c worth just in case ....

Thanks Andy, it makes sense. The rad has a non pressure cap so the pipe connection could either be blanked off or connected into the pipe from from the top of the engine to the expansion tank. The other large bore connection is from the heater return to the bottom thermostat housing. So I guess any header tank with two inlets and a pressure cap connection will do? Preferably. one that doesn't. leak! laughlaugh Cheers. John C.

Hi John...The outlet from the neck of the rad is connected to one of the top inlets via a reducer if i remember correctly...Vent it to the floor and you will loose ALL coolant...I will check the one i have at the moment it looks like it only has one crack around the smaller of the two outlets/Inlets so i will fix that and you may use it if you need to..Would be nice to get it back, Or one similar at some point though as i would like a spare in case my stainless one goes wonky...eek

I can't remember what i said about the air box, I will have a read back through the posts...I have a vague recollection of me drawing something...smash..Im sure something can be done....smile

Thanks Zig. My thoughts, depending what tank I source connection wise, was to connect the rad pipe into the one coming from the top of the engine block if I only had a tank with two inlets. Thanks for the offer but since "Wesley" is being garaged soon for refurbishment of brakes etc over the winter months there's no panic over a replacement tank. Something is bound to turn up that I can use. I'm sorry I might have misread your old post reference airboxes. My Granada type box at the moment has the inlet facing the engine block. The future plan is to see if I can cut a hole and fabricate a pipe to the front of the car past the radiator? Thanks again for the kind offer Zig, but we'll see what turns up during the winter recess.smokin Cheers John C.
