Can I replace engine output seal without opening engine?
Discussion
It's a 1997 Vitara, you know the original "fat boy" types. The output seal on the crankshaft, where the flywheel and clutch is, is leaking oil.
I've presently got the gearbox off to do another job, so I've got access to the seal from the outside. I'm just worried about whether I can get it off, and if I try and fail then I'm stuck!

Depending on how large the seal is you could try the self tapping screw method.
IIRC you screw a couple of self tappers into the seal 180 degrees apart and give them a good tug.
This method is not reccomended for aquatic seals, the RSPCA frown upon that sort of activity
