Went to look at a 2005 997CS today, was a little concerned about some corrosion on the passenger side sill at both front and rear as can be seen below.

Wasn't expecting to see corrosion on a 10 year old galvanised body. What's the consensus, is this a common fault that's fairly cosmetic or is it hiding a can of worms? Your opinions would be appreciated.

That smacks of neglect and is not normal. Walk away ...... plenty more out there.

I looked at a good few late 996s before I bought mine and none had this. What mileage/history does the car have and is it otherwise sound?

Thanks for the replies. It's done 95k miles and has full service history. Five stamps, the first two with OPC Colchester and the last three with Autostrasse in Essex. It's had two owners, the first for nearly 10 years. It doesn't look like the car has been in an accident. All panels have original paint except maybe the front bumper for stone chip repair.

If it has NO OTHER ISSUES, is very well priced (cheap as chips) and your a hands on guy then why not give it a go if its the model/spec your after.

Repair it, together with any other blemishes, to a tip top standard and then enjoy it.

Top shot doesn't look like stone-chipping to me.

Bottom one does.

I'd be vary wary of this one.

I can't be certain but I am fairly sure. Both sides were identical (apart from the bubbling paint). Also the paint protection film had the look of original on both sides with plenty of wear and a little yellowing. There was no sign of any transition from original to new paint below the film as you can see in the photo. I think stone chips underneath have allowed water in, which combined with winter salt has allowed the corrosion to move up the sill. I just worry what the areas I can't see are like so I think I'll be passing on this one.

Plenty of cars, no point picking one in poor condition.
