Its been done! I used to have a Doberman (sadly deceased now) and she loved it on the parcel shelf. You may want to consider some kind of restraint, possibly anchored to the rear bulkhead somewhere.

I used to take a Boxer out in the Chimp. I Put a link onto the seat belt bracket so that she was on a lead, but could move! about.

Pretty strightforward as long as you get him/her secured properly... Holly now has a webbing strap between the base of the two roof struts, and her harness clips onto that, nice thing about it is it works with the roof down as easily as the roof up.

Cheers,
Matt.

I went for a trial run with my girrly German Shepherd a few days ago. Towel on the parcel shelf, blanket on the seat. She preferred the parcel shelf. Lies down with paws neatly crossed over the transmission tunnel (bless). I drove with roof in targa as it's more security, but not as fun. Now I need to configure a restraint contraption without too much hassle...

Girrls out for a drive!!

Matt,

Is he/she wearing one of those pet-store seatbelt harness things? If so, then I will go out and get one. I'm planning a jaunt to Cheltenham tomorrow, and wanted to bring my dog, so she could harrass the sheep up on Bishop's Cleeve for a while

Smart looking dog. If I wasn't biased towards GSD's, I'd like a Ridgeback.

you're in Cheltenham tomorrow..!! perhaps I should bring the Tiv into work and we can have a burn round the Inner Ringroad .. yep.. got the harness from a petstore in Malvern, but yes, its one of those standard dog harnesses.. I had to take Holly in with me for a fitting though as the size guide doesn't mean much... afterall what is a Medium dog !?

Might see you tomorrow then
Matt.

Often get the missus and the dog in my S3, sits on the parcel shelf and enjoys the breeze.

Got a harness which clips onto the roof stays, pooch fits in better and is more settled with the back bit of the roof up.

I bought a cheap adjustable dog guard from Halfords, it's got those sucker caps at each end and wedges nicely between the roof and and the cubby holes behind the seats. Means that you can have the roof off but with the targa bit up.

I've got a couple of Westies, so they're a bit curious, hence keeping them well fenced in.
