Hi everyone,

I only have 2 wires connected to the fuel gauge sender, a black with green stripe and a black one.
There are 3 connections to the fuel sender. There is another black wire hanging near the fuel gauge sender.
Should that one also be connected to the fuel sender?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Geoffrey

No, the second black wire should go to an earth tag on the tank itself to ensure the tank is earthed for safety. Tag on mine is towards the top of the tank above the sender.
Looking from the sender side, just above and to the left of the tank the chassis top cross member should also have an earthing stud to provide a good chassis earth for the rear of the car.

Hi again Greymrj,

As you said, there is a screw on the cross member to the left of the tank.
Shall I connect it to that?

Many thanks again for your knowledge and time.

Best regards,

Geoffrey

On mine there are 3 wires to the tank:
The green/black is the feed from the fuel gauge to the fuel sender. Connects to the sender.
The black alongside the green/black is the earth back from the fuel sender to the chassis. connects to the other side of the sender.
The third black is the earth from the body of the tank back to the chassis. connects to a tag terminal on the tank itself.

The screw on the chassis is the earth connection for the harness for the rear of the car and should have a black wire attached to it which will then join the wiring harness inside the boot.

Obviously, when the wiring is right, a meter should show continuity between that chassis mounting screw, the tank body and the sender terminal. Also to the rear lights etc.

There is nothing to stop you connecting black wires from the tank and the sender direct to the chassis mounting screw if the originals are damaged.
