Of course its an M22mm its the alternative fan sender location but if the OP'er is that worried drain the system down and take said bung to a car accessory outlet to match something up be it bung or spare fan switch (they are hardly expensive) don't bother with a plumbers they dont use M22 thread fittings Edited by Sardonicus on Tuesday 15th September 09:33

Believe it or not I did remember to connect all the pipes back when I replaced the rad about 4 years ago. The new rad came with a hole for a temp sensor which is what the bung is for as it's not required on the rad of the Chim. It's only starting leaking over the last few weeks so, yes the plug should be there. Sardonicus said:

Blimey, wasn't doubting you! just making a suggestion for a source of various 22mm bungs.Op: are you sure the plastic bung isn't just something put in to protect threads on a new radiator, what seals it? :scratchchibn:

I'm sure it's not to protect the thread. It's made from a glass filled polymer which has good dimensional stability at temperature and has a o ring seal on it. Actually I've found the part but I want something made from a better material. I'll probably buy one and make a copy out of polyimide.

Strangely enough its not 
as crap that they are, I often fit rads on french stuff that come with these either in packets or already fitted to the rads you remove them/fit them for different models specs etc 
they are not shipping bungs however I could see how you could come to that conclusion though they look naff

okay.. only trying to help.. but obviously your the expert being able to connect ALL your pipes back up??......For others who may be interested.. when I got my last new rad, it had a number of these plastic bungs in it... On removal you could see they only engaged on about 2 threads, so were not intended to be used in the rad when fitted... They were for transport and masking only.... Beware of this.. I also know a guy who lost all his fluid after 2 months of use with these things... and a wrecked engine to boot as he didn't spot it until it was too late??....
as said above, some cars now come with plastic that can stay in.. but always worth a check IMO

things are just so rationalized nowadays TVR Beaver good call and if thats the case then you certainly wouldn't leave them in either way I wouldn't want any kind of plastic plugs fitted to my cooling system Edited by Sardonicus on Wednesday 16th September 13:29

A good quality brass replacement with 'O' ring is available from Land Rover outlets for a princley sum of less than £5. I used one when replacing my rad a couple of years back. Fortunately had one in 'stock' as a spare for my Defender. As it has a hex head it can easily be fitted using an adjustable spanner or socket and ratchet even. Seals lovely, no need to tighten to death. They are available on 'flebay' under Land Rover radiator plug. All the best, PeteCheers
