Can they only record your speed when you are going towards it as you cross the white lines painted across the road from edge to middle of road?

So if you cross onto other side of road it can it record your speed?

If you approach it from other direction and overtake or for some other reason go onto opposing carriageway so you cross the white lines painted across the road from edge to middle of road, but you are going away from the camera can it record your speed?

Obviously i have no intention of doing any of the above.

Thanks!

They are type approved for both directions, so I assume they could have you which ever way you go through them.

The man in the office will simply look at the two pictures place, a straight edge on the screen/ printout and measure across to the nearest white line in shot. Repeat for the next pic, calculate the distance between the White lines, time over distance= speed.

AFAIK (waits for either correction or confirmation), that Truvello can only operate in forward facing mode (i.e takes photo of car looking at car from front getting nice photo of driver face)with the 3 close lines. To act as a Gatso does it needs the same road markings as a gatso ( the dragon tooth markings). personally, as I do not intend to contribute to the local cash grab syndicate (where my opinion is that any photos taken by camera are checked ,if they are ever checked, are taken as gospel ), where they are right in all cases( in their opinion,of course).

I know somebody who got caught by a truvello that had been swung round to face rearwards. The 3 lines were also on that carriageway. Sneaky barstards. It was about 3 years ago.

ETA. She slowed down for the forward facing one and accellerated after she had passed it. The other camera got her as she spprinted away. Exactly the same thing happened when she came home on the same day. She got two tickets that day but managed to get rid of one of them.

Found on another post on here.A link to West Mids cash grabbers ,showing how they say the truvello works in both modes , with the respective markings. http://www.wmsafetycameras.co.uk/cameras_work.php?...

This implies that if you cross the carriageway (eg when overtaking) and drive through a forward shooting Truvello the wrong way it will shoot you from the rear and get a speed reading...I think?!

But what if you cross the carriageway as you approach a forward shooter? There are no lines or sensors in the road so presumably they cannot get you?

They need lines on the road to corroborate the camera. If the lines aren't there or if new tarmacs been laid then the camera alone is a bit useless.

I've read on may a thread that this is not the case.

For Gatso, not front facing Truvelo.

I was under the impression that the sensors for a Truvelo were actually directly under the white lines ?

They are a set distance short of the timing lines.

Truvelo uses Piezo-electric strips embedded in the road. Gatso uses radar.

Piezo electric strips, yesterday.

So if you cross to other carriage way they can't get you?

If you look at the link I put up (west mids camera .....) , you'll see that there are two differing sets of markings for direction of operation . I'd suspect ( but IANAL, and wait for a legal eagle to confirm) that this is due to type approval requirements. From what I've seen (and both my link and agtlaw's post seem to confirm that the piezo strips cover the entire road), but if type approval is the answer, then the photo of the rear of the vehicle should be discarded. But when did that stop any SCP trying to make a quick buck.

Our local authority has just replaced a Gatso with a Speedcurb (http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speedcurb.htm).

The Gatso had road markings on the (single carriageway) lane travelling away from it.

The Speedcurb now has road markings both on that lane, and the opposite lane where traffic is approaching it.

AIUI the Speedcurbs are not type approved to be used as front-facing cameras. Is that right? If so, this appears to be simple use of white markings on the road to scare drivers into slowing down.

They can turn the camera around? The markings being in place for that eventuality.

Markings on both lanes next to each other are presumably to catch overtaking traffic or people tempted to drive on the wrong side of the road (if they are over the speed limit). Most gatso / speed curb / truvelo in 30 zones are fair enough as far as i'm concerned.

Camera is mounted in the pavement so turning it around will mean it is looking at a different piece of road with no markings on it.

It would catch over takers, I suppose, but it's not an overtaking spot (in fact, for various reasons, it's both very difficult and seriously unlikely anyone would overtake there).

All a bit odd.
