Straight forward question to those in the know, but if I bought an F10 M5 which was still under warranty (LCI on a 63 plate) from a 'normal' run of the mill 2nd hand car dealer and not through BMW AUC, can I transfer the remainder of the warranty into my name AND also have the option to take out the extended warranty when that period ends?

Forgive my ignorance, but I want to clarify this 100% before I considered any example that wasn't from a dealer and end up with a car i can't get an extended warranty on.

If its still under BMW warranty then the warranty is attached to the car.

Yes you can extend when the BMW warranty runs out, usual rules apply with service history etc etc

Unless the rules have changed I dont think so, I traded my E60 M5 in with a non BMW dealer and had to transfer personally when it sold.

This was a few years ago but I doubt the rules have changed.

A quick call to BMW warranty will confirm! I have found them very helpful in the past.

I have a new car BMW dealer warranty book and it states on the front page "If you change your address or are a subsequent owner of the car, please complete a reply paid card found at the back of this booklet".

It then further states further on " This warranty is not affected by a change of ownership of the vehicle within the warranty period"

If you haven't got any of the change of detail cards I would suggest contacting BMW customer sevrices and they'll advise what you need to do to get it in your name.

Hope this helps.
