Hi all

the wife has an old Clio 1.2 16v circa 2003 which refuses to start.
The engine spins away nice and quickly but will not fire.
The immobilizer appears to be working correctly and the problem occurs with both keys.
I have changed the crank sensor and am about to change the coil pack.
Is there anything else I should be looking at?
I've heard the wiring loom through the bulkhead is a common fault, but this car seems ok on this front (although I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for).
I've had all the fuses and relays out and cleaned the contacts too.

Thanks in advance

Marcus

Is it possible to do a diagnostic check, it may highlite a problem rather than throwing random parts at it.

Back to basics is where I would start.

Spin the engine over & pull a plug, if it is wet there is fuel getting into the engine, then connect the plug to its plug lead & rest the plug body on the top of the engine & turn it over again checking for sparks.

As above
If you get no spark, check the ignition supply to the coil, if there is no supply there is a chance that the bulkhead plug terminals have overheated, after that if you have no joy you will have to work slowly through the engine circuits and possibly need a diagnostic tool

Ok, thanks for the replies.
The problem is sorted. Turned out something had got confused.
The immobilizer light did its thing and went solid so I discounted this and was about to throw a coil pack at it.
I disconnected the battery ready and went to have tea. Came back and the coil pack I bought turned out to be the wrong one so I reconnected the battery so I could lock the car and thought 'one more time' and the thing fired up!
Initially it wouldn't rev beyond 1500rpm but once switched off and restarted all was fine. Oh well, back to GSF to get my money back for the coil smile

At least your diagnostic experience with the Clio are very likely to come in useful for the MINI...
