My girlfriend is about to start a business as a private carer and is looking to keep it low key. We will do a few flyers and advertise in local magazines and the church. Once she has enough work, she will stop advertising.
She wants to offer an email address ( easy ) and a phone number.
I have said not to give her home number out, as she can't control the callers or times of calls.
She doesn't want to use a mobile so I am asking what is there ( without the use of anything internet based, skype, voip etc )she can use?
One option is a new line, and set the answerphone for out of hours. I know there are ways of offering a local number which you can point and presumably control.

Where should I look and at what please?

Voip (sorry)

Soho66 - You can set it to divert to a mobile so it does not actually need to be internet related.....

Will have all the divert settings etc. that she needs.

Voip is ideal, I recommend voipfone. Get a cheap SNOM phone and its all good.

One net express from Vodafone could well do the trick for you with a virtual landline number and auto attendant, PM me if you want some more info!

Those who use soho66, if I take a number with a local code. If someone dials me from within that code, do they still need to dial the full number and code, or just the local part of the number?
I know there was an issue here a while ago with someone dishing out numbers with the right local code, but within that area, you still had to dial the full number with code

Another tick for Soho66. The tech is great, it's me who's the weak link in the chain! Unfailingly courteous and personal service from bog standard blokes too, who never allow their frustration to get the better of them when I phone up having screwed up (again).
