Just thought id ask opinions, i have an option to purchase the stock of another business who is closing down very shortly. They have been selling off to the public for the last few weeks at discounted prices,50% and similar. Still a good amount left and whilst most is actually on the shelf so to speak,ie,not many unopened outers, it is pretty much all good clean, sellable stock.
Thing is,whilst sellable,it is pretty much all 'off season' now so would sit on most of it for a few months so would be tying up cash etc.
Basically,i want it but how hard do you reckon i should/could go in at ??
Thoughts ?

Luke.

Think of the lowest offer in your head. Then half it. Or something like that... smile

If they've been offering it at 50% off and still have a lot of stock, I would go in with a low offer. 50% of whatever the trade price is.

There's not much context to go on but it's not unimaginable to be looking at 5% of trade price. We've just paid slightly less than that for around 11,000 items. There are many factors to consider including whether you can take it or leave it if they say no.

If it's latest generation iPads then they're probably worth most of the retail value, if it's really just tat then you need to go in as low as possible, maybe even just take it away for free.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of moving the stock.

If you really want the stock, then make a cheeky offer, you can always increase it if they say no.

If they are closing down, then I imagine they'll be quite keen to get shot of it, particularly if they can get rid of a large quantity in one go.

Sorry all, forgot i had started this thread ! Thanks for the comments which basically mirror my thoughts, i think the seller is expecting me to cherry pick the stock when basically i want it all and to that end i reckon an offer for the lot should obviously work more in my favour. My max price would be 50% of trade but really want it for about 20%.Am quite prepared to walk away. Anyways am going on Monday to 'horsetrade' as the seller put it to me.
Will update then.
