Got to get the car serviced for the first time during my ownership. Its the 8th year service (V8 Vantage). Can't make my mind up where to get it done. Just had a quote from AM Works - £1200 inc VAT. David Appleby have £694 on their website, Bamford Rose £820 (not sure if that includes VAT?) Bamford state they include more than DA but need to check that detail on the phone really.

My car is a little higher mileage than most (54k) and as I said full AM Dealer history. So as far as keeping the value of the car is concerned should I try to keep that dealer history? Assuming I keep the car two years its going to cost me an extra £1k to have it serviced at Works, will I lose that in value if the last two services are at DA?

Any advice / opinions would be really helpful (along with other places to try)

Both mine are looked dater by BR. About a month ago I looked at chopping both in for a car at WS. They were not one bit concerned about the BR stamps in the book and the offer for both cars was exactly what I was expecting. Don't forget the guys at BR are ex factory, indeed one of them pretty much built the One-77

Not wishing to get into the "my indie is better than your indie" debate but the guys at BR are very very interesting to chat to.

recently sold mine to an Aston specialist. 2 services were not AM dealers, made no difference to the price I got. There are now recognised AM Indys. Would expect a problem if it was services at somewhere like Quickfit though.

Another alternative for servicing is McGurks. Have factory trained engineers.

+1 for not being concerned. My last 3 were done at BR and I then, unfortunately, had to sell. I got pretty much what I paid for the car 3 years ago. I can't see a non AM service stamp making any difference whatsoever assuming the indie you choose has the correct pedigree.

When I bought my V8VR in Nov 2012 it was 5 years old (10K miles) and the selling Bentley dealer got it serviced at AM Edinburgh.
Since then it has been serviced by my local garage (the owner has a V8VR), I buy the correct AM OEM parts and they do the work for me

The money I have saved has been put to upgrading the cosmetics of the car, new alloys, CF kit all round, sills etc.
For an 8 year old car (Nov 2007) it looks very similar to a 2012 MY car (but it does NOT have a full AM history), so you pay your money and take your choice.

The 8th year service is due in Nov (30K miles on the clock now) and I have started to buy up the parts that are required for my particular cars service (bearing in mind the previous maintenance work that has been done in the last 3 years)
So for my particular service its probably £250 max
11 litres of Mobil 10W 60
Oil filter
O Rings on the sump filters
Pollen Filters

I dont think you will get it back come resale on a 8 or 10 year old car so definitely indy. Find one thats convenient for you to use....all the ones ive used were factory trained, used OE parts, had the service computer and access to Aston updates. The difference was just the labour rate. Down south might be near £100 an hour, dealer might be up to £150, in a small norther market town might be £70 . On a 5.5 hour or 6.5 hour service, thats your difference

Remember that supporting Works allows the company to flourish and thrive and continue to put out these stunning models that we buy or drool over.

I was pretty certain of that as well, but this has now confused the issue

unless they split the franchise and Heritage bit?

I believe AM Works is owned 50% by Aston Martin with the major shareholders in the remaining AMW being Investindustrial(same major shareholder in AM), so although a separate entity, in reality it's the same ownership.

From Aston Martin website; "Aston Martin Works, renowned worldwide as the official service and restoration division of Aston Martin". Means they own it...

Ok narrowed it down to Bamford Rose and David Appleby

Bamford Rose because of their reputation? But that could be my inexperience with the Aston brands opinion and mistaking infamous with a good reputation? Would like views on that? David Appleby because they undercut the pricing of the others by a good £300.

Now Bamford said they would throw in putting in the Fuse22 switch solution, thats a switch in the car that has the three settings, on, off and as per factory. DA said they would charge £100 for the remote, keyfob solution, that's just off and as per factory. Not sure I'm bothered about the On all the time option I'd get extra with the Bamford solution as I'm not sure I'd ever use it. So its just down to whether I prefer a switch under the seat (out of sight) or the keyfob option. I like the idea of standing outside the car and switching it on and off, not sure why or even sure if it would work like that? I do try to leave the car running for 5mins in the garage before driving it, so maybe if I've accidently left it in loud mode when I'm back in the house I could switch it to quite by remote?

Anyway so need opinions to help me make the decision. There's £200 in it taking the switch into account. Not a great deal. However I like to stay loyal to one garage so whoever I choose I'll look to use them to look after the car for everything going forward. Assuming Bamford charge a higher hourly rate, hence the >40% price for the 8yr service, then there is a good chance overall ownership will end up costing a lot more? Don't get me wrong, money isn't the overall factor, but I'm not loaded, so I don't mind paying for good service, or paying to help retain the desirability of the car, but I don't want to pay out unnecessarily, ie 40% more for BR when DA are just as good smile

Due diligence is a good thing.

I always credit check a company before using them after seeing a pal lose a car to administrators while it was on site at a dealers when they went pop.
