Just bought the TVR bible for a bit of an in depth view of the TVR griffith and mainly for a buying guide, what to look for...etc.

When i came across the Griffith speed six. I cant imagine why this never went into production, looks wise not too keen on the exterior but inside it looks great. Can you buy the Cerbera styled steering wheel. The surrounds around the gear stick and hand brake look different and almost audi TT like, the whole dash looks amazing.
Has any one got any insights into any of this as i haven't heard anything about it.

The Griffith Speed Six died because the engine wasn't ready for another seven or so years! How can anyone remove a V8 and replace it with a straight six?

Anyone fancy starting a 'V8 Club'?

I believe the Griff speed six evolved into the tuscan.
Mainly to distinguish the car into its own model range.

i.e. the griff speed six was too like the Griff 500 and would only take sales from it,

Whereas a new model - different packaging styling (the tuscan) would generate new customers.

This is a reasonably large proportion of tuscan/cerbera (and now tamora) customer who would not look at a griff/chim... And Vice Versa.

Personally I'm still aiming to have a tuscan and a griff.

If TVR ever decided to relaunch the Griffith (again)
I would love one with the AJP V8 out of the 4.5 cerbera.
PLUS - TRACTION CONTROL (100 + bhp uplift on a griff 500)

Why not build your own AJP Griffith?

Can't be that hard, after all the Tuscan racers made the switch from Rover to AJP power.

shouldnt be too difficult the engine cradle etc are basically the same-may need to alter the bonnet etc for engine hieght though.

A few problems:

Currently no job - joined the great IT redundancy set.
Personally I prefer a standard car, not modified hybrids.
I'm also a fan of YDI (You do it)not DIY.
My best TVR would be one that looks amazing, goes amazingly fast, and is amazingly reliable amazingly affordable to service.......

Sounds like a Scalextric Speed 12 then!!

Cheap to run/service and reaches scale speeds in excess of 350mph!!

'And after lunch?'

Yes, I was being flippant, sorry. Fortunately I'm happy with the Rover V8, so PHers will not have to spend their days e-mailing me with advice whilst said unit is on the kitchen table!

When or if I'm tired of the current Griff 500 though, I do fancy a road-going Tuscan with Rover V8, decent interior (ie from Griff or V8S and with two seats) and roof. Did I hear that the S roof will fit?

Estimates welcomed!

You're right. I ordered one at the show and four months later it was changed to a Tuscan although the price was the same. I loved it but there was not enough punters to put their money where their mouth was and I think PW wanted to be a bit more radical. The cannibalised shell was still up in the factory car park the last time I was there.

What was left of the Griff SP6 was outside John Ravenscroft's engine shop last time I was there (a while ago now though) .. right under the portacabin that had one of the original Batmobile SP12 bodyshells on top of it .. what a waste !!
Griff AJP. Looked into this for a customer .. totally doable with next to no money (in TVR terms), if you want to rebuild your V8 to anything remotely AJP powerful (330-350bhp)you're well on the way to the cost of a s/hand AJP anyway. Bolts right onto the T5 box with the cerbie bellhousing of course. the engine loom is almost entirely stand-alone and the rest is just fiddling about. Someone give me their car and 6 grand and I'll do it for you ..
