I sat opposite someone wearing the exactly the same watch make, model, and variant!

so what?
well
  • The watch is a Girard perregaux Laureato Evo 3.
  • I have NEVER seen a GP in the flesh before in the 7 or so years I've owned it, let alone the model and variant.
  • there must be only a few hundered of the model and variant worldwide, possibly less
  • the person was traveling at the same time as me on a packed tube train. 2 minutes either way and we would have been on different trains
  • he was in the same carriage, any other carriage - no coincidence
  • he was in the seat directly opposite, had he been 3 feet away from me I wouldn't have spotted it as the train was packed
  • This week I am wearing my GP, last week I wasn't and next week I would be wearing one of my other 13 watches. I cycle them one week at a time so each watch gets 3-4 weeks wear a year.
I'd love to know what the maths behind it would be (I know a bit geeky) but the whole thing astonished me, the odds must me millins if not billions to one.

Similar thing happened to me, granted only with a Submariner-Date.
Bumped into a friend of mine I've not seen since college some 26 years ago, started chatting, then his girlfriend points out how similar we are as if 'twins' (imagine the film and I'm Danny Devito)
Same drink, same cigarettes, same lighter, then she spots the same watch. Only then to discover, the watches were both bought from the same AD on the same day 19 years ago!

nuts (to the above reply)

Did you (OPer) do a secret GP handshake?

Hang on a sec. Was it dark outside? Was the person wearing it on his wrong hand? Was it a reflection in the window?

So did you speak? Did he realise the twist in the space time continuum too?

We spoke in broken English as he was Italian. I said i'd never seen a GP before let alone a Laureato Evo 3 he said there were a few in Italy, very good and not a rolex were also mentioned, man after my own heart.

Its not going to happen this week - I'm wearing my custom made one off.
