My car is telling me that my emissions system needs a service.

A quick search tells me that this is fairly common.

Can anyone tell me which reader will also clear codes?

Many thanks

I would suggest you take the car into a dealer instead of going DIY. I had this happen a couple of times and was never charged for clearing the error.

I have one of these which reads the codes on my V8VR and allows the reset of the Emission Service Light.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-U480-Car-Diagnostic...

I eventually had to replace the two upstream O2 Hego Sensors on the cats since the Emission Service light started coming on every few days, but used the OBD reader to reset the light prior to getting to that stage.

The O2 sensor error codes tripping my Emission light are detailed below

P0133 - O2 Sensor slow response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0153 - O2 Sensor slow response (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

I use an ELM327 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DYOVXZ0/ref=sr_1_1?i... together with an app called DashCommand. £20 all-in and it works great

Mine always shows a throttle position sensor error which the dealer has checked several times and always stated they they could not find a fault so reset the error. It comes up every few months so I reset it myself although the per ant codes are retained so the history is there for the dealer to review it if needed.

Thanks for the helpful responses!

So am I ok to drive the car? it is only telling me I need an emission service and not to stop driving car!

You should be ok but check with your dealer if you have any doubts. The code may clear itself after a few restarts, I have seen this happen when I couldn't get to the dealer quickly enough.

Hi,

I got one of the cheap eBay ones, but I wish I had got a small one to work with Dash Command as it can be left there permanately rather than faffing about on your hands and knees to get under where your left knee would go.

Out of interest how much is it to replace the two sensors, I was thinking of waiting until the next service?

The O2 sensors are circa £100 each + fitting

Seems to be a recurring theme on here that this warning is best resolved by ignoring it and resetting the tell-tale. We hardly ever hear of anyone actually fixing the problem.

(Mind you, a lot also start to diagnose doom and gloom about a TPMS message before checking their tyre pressures.)

Strange bunch, Aston owners.

In my case the warning light started coming on every couple of days and by replacing both O2 sensors cured the problem permanently.

I had re-occuring O2 error codes, would reset and come back weeks/months later. It was the same sensor each time so just replaced, £80 off ebay and hour labour at local garage. All fine since

Ewan,

Thanks for the info, mine is a DB9 rather than a Vantage, I will search some out and get them replaced.
