I've got a 5 year old (ish) Aquaracer with the Calibre 5 movement. The power reserve at the moment is shocking. I can wear it all day and, unless I wind it every few days, it's dead the next morning. I'm thinking it needs servicing.

Problem is I begrudge spending £300, or whatever it is, to service a watch that only cost me £800 or so. Any suggestions?

The way I see it my options are either deal with it as is, blow the £300 or trade / sell it for something better next year.

As far as I know the Cal 5 is a 2824 base, so any good watchmaker should be able to service it with minimal trouble if it's only 5 years old. The reversers could be shot, but they're still widely available as spares. If you hold the watch flat dial down and wind it car you get the rotor spinning?

As glazbagun says, the calibre 5 is an ETA 2824.2 with a bit of pretty finishing - its bread & butter stuff for any watchmaker / repairer worth the name.

Find someone local and recommended and you should save a very decent chunk of that £300 Tag charge!
