I really don't like those meals you can buy, perhaps in a box, from supermarkets trying to sell you Chinese or Indian etc. Then again local takeaways can be pretty spotty too. For instance if you get the duck with the pancakes ( not proper peking duck I must note ) then it tends to be both overly cooked and still fatty and quite expensive.

So finally I think a supermarket has a better option. The Sainsbury's whole duck for £8 with pancakes? I did another one yesterday and they always work out well. I don't do it in the foil dish it comes in as that reflects to much heat and is too enclosing. I put it on a trivet. It is pricked all over by Mr Sainsbury's ( ooh matron ) so you get crispy skin, no fat underlay, and moist flesh. All for a lot cheaper than the takeaway.

As it takes about 50 mins to cook you can get that cooking whilst you get the rest from the Chinese which they can do better?#

Or perhaps I am off kilter here and it's not as good as I think it is. Has anyone else had it?

We do the same thing with a Waitrose duck and then the rest from our local Chinese.

For at they cost I don't think the Sainsburys Indian boxes are too bad. The Chinese ones are dire though. Only get one 3-4 times a year but it's fine as a fall back when I can't be bothered to cook.

Asda pizzas are very good value, £3.50 for one about 14" that tastes better than most takeaways. Five mins in the oven to cook.

Yeah those Asda pizzas are normally what we have when we can't be bothered to cook, American Hot on a stone baked base. They're better than the chain takeaway ones but not as nice as a proper Italian chippy pizza. Can't really argue with £3.50 though.
