I am re-entering the Porsche fold after a long absence.

I would appreciate any feedback current owners can provide in terms of the following specification of my new car. For context this is designed to be a tribute to 70s 911s with a little more go. The last of the naturally aspirated road going 911s:

Surely if you're going for the retro look the clear glass lights and privacy glass are at odds with that ?

Hi Adam,

We met at the Ace the other night where you had brought your Tesla. Thanks again for the ride. There was one parked in front of my house last night and it brought back fond, if not, slightly fearful memories of some INSANE mode acceleration! Thanks again!

I thought you were going for the Turbo, but nonetheless I think the 991 GTS is a great car. I'd strongly advise you spec the GTS interior. It's what will make the car really stand out and feel special every time you get in it. In typical Porsche fashion its a bit of a rip-off but buying a GTS without the GTS interior is sacrilege in my book! Do you have a strong dislike of Alcantara? Mine still looks fresh after 12k miles with no wear on the steering wheel, seats or door cards at all - so no reason to fear it looking rubbish after some use. It also grips you better in the seats so makes it more pleasant to throw the car about.

I should have my car back from Porsche next week, so would be happy to show you if you want to see first hand what the GTS interior is like.

Other things I'd add are the park assist front and rear if you are planning to use the car around town. These things are getting seriously bloated and I quite like having it -though I'm not as tall as you so can't see the wings as well! Also add the Light design package for your other half. Illuminated vanity mirrors are a requirement according to mine. I don't have it and I'm still getting stick a year on. Oh and get the key painted! I wish I had!

See you at santa pod.

Deniz

Dear Deniz,

What a nice surprise to hear from you and thanks for the comprehensive reply.

I was going for the Turbo S, drove one on Thursday at Silverstone and it was simply too uninvolving and, secondarily, I think it will conflict with my daily driver (dilemma as to which car to take) so decided to go for the amazingly visceral GTS.

The Alcantara has been a real struggle, I am not a fan of huge amounts of Alcantara and that's what you seem to end up with - I saw cars with and without and didn't like the with. Instead I went with plenty of Carbon (including the lit Sill Plates which aren't very Heritage but I think will look awesome) as a sober foil to the outrageous exterior of the car.

Park Assist I hear you and it's absolutely on the spec. Light Design Package I thought I had ordered but it obviously got knocked off in one of my many design iterations - I shall add it back in so thank you! Painted key is a good idea - I shall add that too.

Are there any track day clubs / groups that you would recommend someone returning to the Marque should join?

See you at Santa Pod indeed.

Thanks for the feedback and agreed I just thought they looked so good with the Lava (saw them both on a physical car) that I wouldn't resist!

As standard the GTS comes with a plastic dash, I see you've spec'd leather but double check it includes the dash !

Thanks for that - it does include leather on the dash (looks very smart actually).

Sounds like a cracking motor, but other than 'smoking package' I don't see what is 70's about it?

Brilliant re smokers package...

The heritage colour tribute and duck tail are my oblique 70s tribute.

Adam, sounds a nice spec. I've just come out of a 991 GTS PDK and loved it. I had the GTS alcantara interior, and really liked it. I also had the aerokit, really suited the car, have you considered it..? Mine had the standard suspension, but the car did move around a little more than I'd like when pushing on, so the -20mm suspension option should be better in that regard (but I have no experience of driving with it). I didn't like the clear rear lights, so opted for red...but this is just personal taste...! I too had the privacy glazing, front and rear park, cruise control, and sunroof, all options I'd choose again. One thing I notice you haven't chosen is the full LED lights. I had these on a GT3, and they are incredible.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I preferred the sport design pack (because of the Duck tail spoiler). I am making some minor modifications to spec tomorrow and will add LED headlights on your recommendation.

Thanks again.

Also 18 way seats are a must in my view, or if nothing else the 14 way it give you memory and the steering column is also electric.
