I need to replace both rear mufflers on my 996 C4S. It currently has a PSE exhaust which I have been quoted circa £3000 to replace with oem parts. I have looked at cheaper alternatives such as the Designtek switchable exhaust, and Dansk sports exhaust which isn't switchable. My question is, has anyone had either of these fitted having already had the PSE? and what are they like in terms of sound? I don't want anything to boy racer! I have heard these exhaust on Youtube, but I don't think you get the true sound by listening to a video online. Are there any other alternatives I should look at?

I had Carnewal GT exhausts on my 996 C4S as it didnt have a PSE. Sound was great, not boomy or boy racer like and not overly loud - just a nice deeper rumble. Added benefit that it uses the original standard mufflers just reworked internally, so looks standard from outside.

I used an exhaust solution from NineExcellence for my PSE replacement. It is all wired up to the oem dash switch for the exhaust.

+1.
Very throaty like the PSE and pretty much performs like a switchable exhaust, by which I mean you can keep it quiet by pootling along at low revs or low throttle opening.

Why do they need replacing? If the seems have gone it may be worth having them repaired as per http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've got Dansk stainless "sports" boxes on mine, which I'm happy with, but sometimes wish I could switch to a slightly quieter setting. Certainly if I had a switchable exhaust I wouldn't imagine I'd want to go to a non-switchable.
