New BBC series, based on Bernard Cornwell's excellent Saxon Stories - this should appeal to anyone that enjoys historical dramas and Game of Thrones fans. The books are extremely well written with some awesome battle scenes. Just hope the BBC can do it justice.

It premieres on October 10, 2015 on BBC America - not sure when it will be shown in the UK.

That might be worth a watch. Was just thinking about this book today and contemplated starting another Bernard Cornwell one when i saw this thread.

Hmm not convinced.

Feels completely wrong to me, there seems to be no age to the sets, which is something GoT and Vikings does so well, it feels as if you are there in that time period.

This looked like a bunch of larpers on a modern set.

Couldn't agree more, everything was so clean, looked like a poor imitation of Vikings. I switched off

I watched it last night and thought it was fairly decent so will give it another go.

Yes, I agree, watched the first episode on catch up last night, I thought it showed promise and will certainly watch episode 2.

Uhtred: He's naked [Kidnapped Dane sorcerer].
Brida: It was necessary.
Uhtred: There's a branch up his arse.
Brida: Which is why he's naked. [Waggles branch]
Dane: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Uhtred: Father, this is Brida, my greatest friend.
Father Beocca: A woman?
Brida: Yes. I am. I have tits.

Am enjoying it so far, and the lad playing the lead has much of the 'air' of Matthew McFadden about him so very good casting there. IMHO.

But why all the sex? OK, I know it happens - allegedly (not during marriage) - but it seems gratuitous. When they were 'humping' in the woods she stops (I thought she'd heard something) but it's to pass on some canny idea about next day's jaunt...so not concentrating on the job then? Tut tut.

The humour is good though "would you like to be clubbed now?".

People might want to try 'The bd Executioner' as well if they like this.

Not as good as Vikings/GoT but its ok.

Nice to watch and I suppose it is trying to give a flavour of period living but some issues to address - the brickwork was so wrong.

Yes I know...

Yes I know...
If you mean the thin red bricks in the columns, they weren't far off what the Romans might have built.

More like London bricks and the Romans certainly did not mortar them like that

Far too thin for London Bricks, yes the Romans were very good with mortar and the like.

I wonder where the world would be now if the Romans continued for longer as it does appear that the world went backwards during the 'Dark Ages'/less civilised

is it faithful to the books?

what made GoT so good was the source material and the adherence to it insofar as possible.
