The alarm went off half an hour ago and it won't stop. Have phoned the garage and they haven't heard of this before. Have tried locking/unlocking. It will start, but the alarm won't stop. Anyone got any thoughts as to what I can do? If I disconnect the battery, will the alarm have its on battery? Its a 2009 V8 vantage, thanks.

Possibly a leaking battery in the reserve alarm sounder, due to old age- the acid eats away the pcb tracks in a random fashion, which may have caused it to activate. Once the back-up battery is flat, the alarm will stop. Just a thought.

Thanks John, sounds like a possibility, I'll have to get it looked at. After about 45 minuets it intermittently stopped, which was strange but when I was outside just now it started off again but only for a few seconds. The car is unlocked.

Is this back-up battery an item that would, or should be changed at service, when a particular age is reached?

Another point. The AM does not have any visible indication (apart from folded mirrors) that the alarm is on. Most cars have a flashing red light.

The back up battery is part of the Volvo electrical architecture, and is known to leak/fail after 6 or 7 years. Read all about it in the Volvo forums. It is located behind the rear nearside wheel arch liner, and the module is easy to change. I guess there may, or may not, be a dash message 'alarm service required'
