Always worth going bigger than what you need plus worth putting an in line fuse in , have a look at the stereo wire I assume Monaro and use that as guide , I would prob 15 or 20 amp wire and it could supply other things at a later point

I'm using one of these to add another switch live to my dads car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5x-Add-A-Circuit-Car-Aut... so think ill go with a 15amp wire

Just make sure you don't over load what ever you are taking it off , other option is take a supply off the battery ? If it's just to a normal stereo my jvc stereo has a 15 amp fuse in the back of it , cable is less than 15 amp , the reason I say careful what you draw off is i had an immobiliser fitted and it fried the wire and fuse they took it off

If its just a switched live, it doesn't need to be that big. Its just used as a signal to turn the radio on/off with the car. The permanent live needs to be of the appropriate size though.
