If you're using a Mac then use the iMovie video editing software which is included with it. Excellent bit of kit and very easy to use.

The free GoPro software is surprisingly good (doesn't have to be GoPro footage)

Photoshop creative cloud?
May as well learn the industry standard software if you're going to bother learning anything at all. And for £9 a month, it's hardly going to break the bank. Plus you get Lightroom included too.
