Dix, another option is to buy one off the flea. Make sure you get as late a suffix as possible, D is good, F better. (The suffix is the last letter of the serial number).

Don't get a land rover one though because the output shaft is completely different and you won't even be able to swap over, I don't think.

E.g on the flea item number 191699664542 looks promising and is the correct type. I have arranged my own courier and that usually comes to about 20 quid. You are better getting without bellhousing if shipping - much cheaper. The bellhousing takes 5 mins to swap over.

The experts in reconditioning the gearboxes are Ashcroft Transmissions london way.
They do mail order as well.
They do all the land rover boxes which this is.
It all depends how much you want to spend and how quick you want it done.
If it was me i'd do the the clutch assembly at the same time as the box is out.
What is t he time scale i getting it done and what is the spend limit ?

Cheers

Mike

You also got gearbox man down south, and as said John Reid does them up north, if you want to save on postage you can give it to him at one of the Dunlop TVR Races.

Not sure on prices as no idea how much it would cost. But timescale would be tight as the garage wouldnt want the space tied up.

That is another reason why buying a replacement might be better. Plus - you'll have a spare!

I'd give Ken Hall a ring at V-Tec in Middlesbrough 01642 211441

although these days known as a Metro 6R4 specialist, he rallied a home built mk4 Escort V8 for a number of years and has a lot of experience with that gearbox - I navigated in that to a number of very good results smile
