Porsche 997 rusty thing on right hand side of engine...
Discussion
Does anybody know what the below is, its on the drivers side and just behind the engine, it looks rather rusty, on an otherwise very spotless car. Wondering if it is anything that needs worrying about, only thibgs that are the least bit rusty in the car is this and the exhaust bolts....what the hell did porsche make those out of.....
I think It is a German second world war limpit Mine ,apparently this is why the 996 and 997 engines explode for no apparent reason ,Hope this helps....And I think your exhaust studs look knackered, they look like the bio degradable ones that give you that nice sporty sound when your back boxes fall off,

It's only your cover plate that is corroding , Opc will only change cover plate and pump as one unit thus quite a high price. A call to the service desk will confirm costs as its not an uncommon job as these cars deteriorate with age. Regards. Ian

Its not actually leaking atm though , the torx bolts can sometimes be an issue to get undone which may add to the labour price.
I would recomend getting your exhaust studs done at the same time , it makes the pump job a bit easier and there dont seem to be a lot left of them from the picture.
